MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Holly Yates

PART A: Students will individually or in pairs create videos. The students pick which topics to cover, what information to use,
and how to edit the video; this brings the video project to a LoTi level 4, and publishing the videos on a class website or blog
would up it to a level 5.
Grade Level: 9-12
Content Area: Math
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

MHMN1. Students will explore and

use historical computational methods.
a. Use Babylonian, Roman, Egyptian (hieratic and hieroglyphic), Chinese, and Greek
number systems to represent quantities.
Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

Brief Description of Learning Experience: Students will use visuals and audio to showcase different ancient
mathematics. This activity will be an introduction and get the students motivated about the unit. The students will either focus on
one era or will do an overview of all. Students will include photos, video, and audio. The students will then play their videos for
the class to view. The students will ask questions and provide feedback.
The teacher will assess the videos. The video will be graded based on meeting required elements and length. It will also be
judged on professionalism and creativity. The students will receive specific feedback from the teacher, and will be allowed to
make changes to their video.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: This assignment would be a minimum LoTi level of
four because the students are driving the assignment and using technology to create their own original
work. It could easily be level 5 if the videos were published such as on a class website or blog.
Importance of technology: This project could not be completed without multimedia authoring tools. The tools are
needed to combine all elements and edit the information. Without the technology, each element would have to be shown
separately, and it would not be cohesive.

Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When completing this assignment, students need to be aware of what sites
they are using. The teacher should recommend sites which do not require the students to provide any personal information to use.
The teacher should monitor sessions when students are using the Internet. If the teacher publishes the students videos, there
should be no personal information attached to the video that could lead a person back to them; also, the teacher should make sure
to have permission and follow the schools policies.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity: This can be a
highly motivating introductory activity.
