EXPERIMENTAL GALVANOMETER
Objective:
How to detect Electric current?
Built a simple Galvanometer
What Oesterd discovered about electric current and magnetic field?
The Experimental Project is to build a sensitive Galvanometer using only a
small number of components.
The project consist of creating a coil that involves a magnetic needle hung by
thin line. When an electric current passes across the coil a magnetic field is created
and its action moves the needle. By the movement of the needle, the reader can
evaluate the amount of current in the coil. It is possible to detect even weak
currents in the range of few microamperes .
We can see in the diagram below, that we can determine the sensitivity of
the experimental galvanometer. Using a Potentiometer.

First adjust the potentiometer for the maximum value of resistance. Using a
10k potentiometer, the probe current should be about 0.3mA or 300A. Touching
the terminal with the wire from the battery holder, as indicated in the figure,
observe whether the needle moves. If it moves the galvanometer is sensitive
enough to detect a current as low 300A.
*For more precision in testing the experimetal galvanometer place a common
multimeter in parallel and see exactly the current it detects*

A Danish Professor naming Hans Christian Oesterd discovered that electric

current can create magnetic fields. As the Professor discovered current can create a
magnetic field , then if the wire wound into a coil and the electric current passes
through in the wounded wire, the magnetic field will concentrate inside in it.
