Laser classes
10 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 1:
The accessible laser radiation is not hazardous under normal
operation.
11 / Autor / Druckdatum
Labelling, Class 1
Laser Klasse 1
nach DIN EN 60825-1:2001-11
12 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 1M
The accessible laser radiation is nonhazardous for the eye as long as the
beam cross section is not reduced by optical instruments (magnifying
glasses, lenses, telescopes)
Remark:
- with optical instruments the hazard is comparable to laser class 3R
or 3B
13 / Autor / Druckdatum
Labelling class, 1M
Laserstrahlung
Nicht direkt mit optischen Instrumenten
betrachten
Laser Klasse 1M
nach DIN EN 60825-1:2001-11
Remark:
The labelling of laser of class 1 and 1M is not mandatory
therefore the laser often carry no labels
only the manual contains information referring to the laser class
14 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 2:
The accessible laser radiation is within the visible spectral region of
(400 nm to 700 nm).
For short exposure times ( less than 0.25 s) the radiation is
nonhazardous for the eye.
Remark:
- The upper limit for the accessible radiation is Plimit = 1 mW
(for continuous wave radiation)
15 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 2, Remarks
- for short exposure time of up to 0.25 s the eye will not be damaged
- avoid repeated exposure as well as longer exposure times
- if an unintended exposure happens, always close the eyes or
look to another direction

Labelling, class 2
Laserstrahlung
Nicht in den Strahl blicken
Laser Klasse 2
nach DIN EN 60825-1:2001-11
P 1 mW
= 650 nm
17 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 2M:
The accessible laser radiation is in the visible spectral rangeof 400
nm to 700 nm.
Short exposure time less than 0.25 s are nonhazardous, as long as
the laser beam cross section is not reduced by optical instruments
(magnifying glasses, lenses, telescopes).
Remark:
-with optical instruments the hazard is comparable to laser class 3R or 3B
18 / Autor / Druckdatum
Labelling, class 2M
Laserstrahlung
Nicht in den Strahl blicken oder
direkt mit optischen
Instrumenten betrachten
Laser Klasse 2M
nach DIN EN 60825-1:2001-11
19 / Autor / Druckdatum
Class 3R:
The accessible laser radiation is hazardous for the eye.
The maximum power/energy is five times higher than the limit of
laser class 2 and 1
Remark:
- potential as dangerous as laser class 3B
- limit for accessible radiation Plimit = 5 mW
(for continuous wave operation)

Unsichtbare Laserstrahlung
Nicht dem Strahl aussetzen
Laser Klasse 3R
nach DIN EN 60825-1:2001-11

Klasse 3B:
The accessible laser radiation is hazardous for the eye and often
for the skin.
Remark 1:
- direct exposure of the eye to the laser beam is dangerous
- even with diffusors directed laser beams have to be expected

The accessible laser radiation is very hazadous for eye and skin.
Even diffuse scattered radiation can be hazadous.
Laser radiation can cause explosions and inflammation of materials.
