ABSTRACT:
A honeycomb structure is an array of hollow cells formed between thin vertical walls.
The cells are often columnar and hexagonal in shape. The name Honeycomb is derived from
the honeycomb itself. Due to its very dense and tightly packed structure, it is used in
manufacturing of objects which require resisting very high compressive and bending loads. In an
aircraft it is very particularly used in manufacturing of the control surface which bear the
maximum of air loads during flight.
In this project we will design two types of sandwich structures that is, honeycomb and
corrugated sheet type in the form of sheets and beams and will analyze those using Ansys and
Nastran Patran software for different load conditions and compare the results. We will conclude
by stating which structure is more appropriate and optimum to use in what part of the aircraft
structure by studying the structural load requirements of aircraft at various parts of the aircraft.
