Task 1 a) Generate Ideas

Website idea for ED Games
The purpose of my website is the following:
My website will be about game reviews based on PC Steam games.
This website will help people to decide what game to buy on steam.
The websites that I will use to help me are Steam and other game
review websites.
Target Audience The target audience for my website are people who
want to find out if a game is good or bad before they want to buy it.

Home page The home page for my website will consist of game reviews
that critics/users have reviewed. The list will have the logo for each game
and under the logo will be the percentage of people who said they liked or
didnt like the game. On the upper left of the homepage will be a search
bar so if you cannot find the game you are looking for then you can
always type it in the search bar. To simply go back to the home page just
click the websites icon. The lists on the homepage generate random
searches.

Positive review page- The positive review page shows a list of games by
user reviews. The game with the most positive review in the website and
on the last page of it is the game with the most negative review.
Recent review page The recent review page shows the game that was
most recently released.
This website also tells users about Steam sales when a steam sale is going
is happen and what games have a discount. It also recommends games
based on the games you looked at or reviewed.
About us I will make a link on the bottom of the website to the about us
page is were it tells people about the webpage and the people who helped
make it.
Contact us The contact us page is for people who are having problems,
want a job or any other reasons. They can contact us by Email or by
phone.

Recommended page My website will have a recommended page were it

will collect all the games you liked and it will recommended games that
you may like based on your searches on my website.

Colour scheme The colour scheme will be black, white, blue and grey

Accessibility My website will be easy to access and will also be easy to

navigate through the website.
Gallery The gallery will show videos, pictures of gameplay or concept art
of the game. The point of the gallery is to appeal to the user make him or
her buy the game.

The clients want to have a website about reviewing games on the PC.
What will be the theme of your website?
The theme of the website will have a black background with a blue
foreground
Considering this theme how will influence the style you should apply to
the website design?

Colours using colours blue for background and white text to make
it easy to read
Images going to use images that relate to the games that will be
reviewed
Font - Calibri

To comply with WCAG 2.0 regulations I will apply the following to the
website:
To include proper alternative text for images- This will help people
who are visually impaired with the website. This will help the screen
reader to understand the message by reading the text.

Give all the links on the website a unique and descriptive nameTo help visually impaired people is important the screen reader can
translate the link. I need to make sure each link describes what will be
displayed when the user clicks on it.
Font size and colour- The font size will have to be large enough so that
people can read it but it cant be too large. The text will have to be spaced
out so it will look good. The colour will have to be appropriate to the text
you have.
Suitable Colours The colours for my website will need to have a high
contrast for the background and foreground so that the text and images
will stand out. Colour blindness is the most common form of colour
deficiency; red-green colour deficiency affects about eight percent of the
population
A webpage should not be created using tables- they should only be
used
Download speed The more images you have on your website will mean
the longer it will take to download your website. You can get around this
by compressing images. Thumbnails can be displayed when downloading
the web page and if the user wants to view it they can just click on the
image to download a large version. This will mean that the user will not be
waiting one.
Usability Your website should have to be easy to navigate so the user
will know where they are going and how to get the information they want.
A good idea is having laid out hyperlinks. You should use pictures to add
meaning to the text and the contents of the page. You should also make
sure that your website can work in all browsers.
Search engine optimisation - Search engine optimisation is used in
search engines like Google, yahoo or bing. It is when a search engine
looks for websites from the keywords in your search.
Getting your website to number1 on the search engine when someone
types in game reviews.
Develop meta tags for your site and submit your website to Google so that
it can get recognition
Indexable content For a search engine to perform better your
important content should be in HTML text format. The most easiest way to
make sure that words and phrases you display to people who visit your
website are visible to search engines are in the HTML text on the page

Another way is to instead of text try using images like gifs, jpg or in
PNGformaty alt arributes in HTML to give search engines a text
description of the visual content.
Keyword usage and targeting Keywords are important to search
engines because using keywords will make it easier for you and the search
engine to find what you are looking for. If you want your website to have
a high ranking on search engines like Google or Bing so that then it is best
to put the keyword that relates to your subject so people will be able to
find your website.

Title tags Your title of the webpage should be accurate and a brief
description of a pages content.

Task 5 Technical considerations

Page size (Kb) This affects how long it takes to download or load
something on a website
Browser The browser that you use to browse the internet. There are
different types of browsers including chrome, Firefox, internet explorer,
etc.
Screen Size The size of the website on your screen. If it is too big/small it
could stretch your website.
What can you do to overcome this problem and optimise your website
quality and download time?

If you want to make sure that your download time is fast then you
could optimise some of the images inside Photoshop so that you will
have images that take less space but have good quality.
An image cannot be bigger than 50 kilobits or 50 KB
A page on a website cannot be bigger than 150 KB
Try to crop some images so that it only shows the important parts of
the image.
Apply compression to decrease the size of the file but make sure
that the quality doesnt get reduced a lot.
