Design Pathway: 2015-16

Reynoldsburg City Schools

What is Design?
Ohio is at the heart of the manufacturing renaissance, experiencing an ambitious rebound thanks to the fusion of research, new
partnerships, and a competitiveness not seen in years. Design Pathway students will utilize our two fabrication laboratories (fab labs) to
conceptualize, design, develop, prototype and test almost anything. Our fab labs include wood routers, 3D printers, milling machines,
lathes, and vinyl cutters, which students will utilize as they learn to use leading-edge advanced manufacturing techniques to solve
significant problems. Additionally, middle and high school Design Pathway students will participate in Project Lead the Way coursework,
requiring students to apply the design process to solving problems while utilizing industry-leading technology.
The Design Pathway is one of the few pathways that currently extends K-12, with our elementary and middle STEM schools utilizing design
thinking and problem-based learning, select middle schools utilizing Project Lead the Ways Gateway to Technology curriculum, and
culminating with Project Lead the Ways Engineering program at the high school level.

Postsecondary and Career Connection

Reynoldsburg City Schools has partnered with Columbus State Community College to extend this pathway from high school to
postsecondary. Currently, eSTEM Academy is the only Academy participating in the Design Pathway. To learn if your elementary or middle
schools is participating in the Design Pathway, talk to the school principal.
