Steps to completing your professional growth plan:

1. Self-assess your current knowledge, skills and
attributes (use the tool to the left)
2. Choose one or two goal areas that you wish to learn
more about and frame them as a question (e.g. How
can I plan to engage todays learners? How can I use
technology more effectively? How can I better
understand the unique needs of students?)
3. Think of strategies/steps to reaching this goal? What
do you wish to accomplish and by when?
4. What resources will you use to help you achieve
your goal? (textbook, other books, websites, people,
videos, etc.)
5. How will you know when you have been successful
in reaching your goal? What will be your indicators
of success/evidence/proof?
6. Reflection This is completed at the very end of the
learning year.
7. Summary An overall summary of your learning
which is often shared with your supervisor (e.g.
administrator)
8. Celebrate
9. Start thinking of future goals.
10.Always grow. Grow always.

Planning for Growth

Our Vision: A culture of respect, inclusion, caring and excellence where every student succeeds

Assessing
Professional Needs
Using the self-assessment checklist, I have
identified the following areas that could
guide my planning for growth this year.

Work on my writing and verbal skills

Learn how to make meaningful plans about

what to teach and how to do so

Goal #1

Goal #2

PRACTICE:

At School

Talk more in front of peers

Make videos of myself talking about something (ex: a current subject being discussed in class) and review and see where I need
improvement

Volunteer to answer questions more often in classes/be a part of group discussion in classes more

In class activities
Projects
Group Work
Learn and establish the kind of things my students like and what interests them the most

Work on integrating and understanding

technology in the classroom

More confidence when speaking in front of others

Good (high mark) grade reflection of projects and presentations (in the writing and presentation
section)
Good (constructive and encouraging) feedback from instructors on writing assignments and essays

Reflection:
This was/will continue to be a hard task for myself simply because I know I lack the confidence in myself as
an individual to present and talk in front of peers without being nervous. It is not that I necessarily dont
know my stuff or what I am presenting on, Im more nervous that I am getting judged by others who are
watching. However, being naturally shy plays a huge role in this. I think as I continue to grow as an
individual and develop more self-confidence, this task will seem effortless soon enough.

Good marks on projects/assignments

Positive feedback from coworkers and students
Confidence in my lesson plans

Reflection:
This was not an easy task for me because I had little skills in how to plan before hand more of a go with
the flow kind of person when it comes to things (which does not always hurt, but can definitely hinder full
potential, especially in a circumstance like this).
