Intro to Mass Media

Podcast
OneWeb Global Internet
Purpose: To inform the public about OneWeb global internet.
Idea: By introducing the word to global internet, people can use this medium to access information, and
share ideas.
Introduction:
I.
(Attention Getter) Hello, and welcome to my (Pause) first ever podcast. Sorry about that
sudden lag you experience mid-sentence. Im sure you all have experienced slow connections
at one point or even a dead spot where you had no signal.
II.
(Purpose) Today I am going to inform you about a new promising technology called
OneWeb. OneWeb is a global connection of satellites offering internet to every spot on the
earth.
III.
(Preview) My name is Preston Lachowicz, and I am student working out of Oak Harbor. I
have been researching this company called OneWeb, and want to share some important
information with you all.
A.) First, I want to give you some background information about this company. I will inform
you about their goals, the founder, and some key contributors investing into this program.
B.) Second, you will know how the creators plan to implement OneWeb into space, and
spread the opportunity to everyone around the world.
C.) Third, I will discuss how this company will remain efficient and prevent any
environmental issues that may arise.
Transition: Now lets talk and get to know a little more about OneWeb.
Body:
I.

Im sure most of you have heard about Greg Wyler. Maybe not? How about Google?
Most likely you have. Greg Wyler is the mastermind behind some of Googles
greatest innovations, like Google satellites. Mr. Wyler departed from Google with the
intention of building something more astonishing. He decided to use his knowledge
of satellites to create a global connection of over 648 satellites to provide internet
connection worldwide. Wyler has a simple mission, to create an affordable global
gateway. With him is a strong backbone of investors like the owner of Virgin mobile,
CEO Richard Branson and the Executive Chairman of Qualcomm Incorporated, Dr.
Paul E. Jacobs. (http://dailycaller.com/2015/04/15/oneweb-aims-at-global-internetaccess-by-2019/)

Transition: Now that you know a little about this company, lets see how OneWeb plans to offer their
services to the world.
II.
The idea of a satellite may bring your mind to picture a huge complex space age
machine floating around the vast darkness of space. With the 648 satellites being
launched into space, the proximity to earth is a lot closer than previous satellite
connections like GeoSat, which worked at 22,200 miles above earth. These satellites
reflect signals back to transmitters that receive the connection without any loss of
speed or signal. People who plan on participating in this global network then take

part in purchasing a transmitter which is aimed to be cost effective, easy to install,

and small. (http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20150115005196/en/OneWebAnnounces-Plans-Launch-Satellite-Constellation-Bring#.VXETjMLbLwo
Transition: To ensure the wellbeing of our environment that these satellites will be sharing with us.
OneWeb has created a safe way to power their equipment and dispose of the satellites once they reach
their end of service life.
III.
All good things must come to an end. Im not speaking about the promising company
OneWeb, but their sophisticated satellites. Beings thousands of miles above earth,
recycling these modern marvels seem to be a controversial topic. Fortunately the
engineers at OneWeb have created a way for these satellites to recognize their end of
service life. These satellites de orbit our earths space, leaving the air clean and debris
free. These satellites have the functionality for solar power, and terminals have the
option to be solar powered. This ensures a self-powering way for users to use their
new internet connection. (http://www.oneweb.net/)
Conclusion:
The expected date for OneWeb to come into effect is in 2019. To maximize the potential of this global
connection, the world needs to be informed about their services. I hope I have successfully informed you
about the background of Oneweb, along with how the technology will go into effect, and how the
program aims to ensure an environmental friendly interface.
