Proposed Research Topic:
What is the purpose of television idents? The purpose of television idents is
to make the organisation a well-established one and so the public can
recognise the organisations logo and ident as soon as they see it, and that
customers find it an interesting ident to watch, this will hopefully appeal to
people so they watch the programme which is coming on. The idents should
always suit into the ethos and identity of the company. If they manage to
achieve this, the ident will always be more successful as the ones who dont.
Companies use idents to advertise the programmes that are being aired on
their channel, they are very effective for the business because people will be
able to identify the company just from the log, if this happens then the ident
has done its job very effectively.
Purposes:
We will be designing a television ident for the BBC. We hope to create a
successful ident that involves colours, which are associated with BBC (Red),
the ethos of the channel (creating a ident which links in with the ethos) and
so it fits in with the corporate identity of the channel, by creating a channel
that informs and entertains the public so they chose to watch BBC instead of
other channels, e.g. ITV, Channel 4.
Background:
The purpose of the proposed research is to ensure we make a successful
and interesting ident for the public to watch. The context of the proposed
context will give us the exact information we need, if we successfully record
all the right information then we should be able to make a successful and
interesting ident. Another purpose of any research we do is to determine
what extra information we should get rid of and what information we should
keep In order to ensure there is know confusion and to ensure the ident is an
interesting one. We feel that current idents are very successful as BBC is one
of the most successful companies in Britain, which makes it harder to create
ident that will catch the public eye and their attention BBCs target audience
spread across a wide range of ages, from the ages 5-80. This enables the
channel to broadcast a wider range of programmes. BBCs ethos is very
important; it is to be the most creative organisation in the world.
Scope:
We will perform focus groups to enable us to record as much information as
we can and hopefully will be an advantage to us and helping us to create a
successful and interesting ident. The focus group will contain another 3
people.
Method:

We will collect our data from the Internet and focus groups; this is very
effective because we will get our customers actual and honest views abut
idents, we feel that these two ways are the most effective way and most
accurate way of collecting data and information.

Limitations:
We must not use an ident that has been used before or even the font used
or size, as this will be classed as copyrighting. We will be able to make this
sample fair because we will ask everyone in the focal group the same
questions
