Some say that if the LORD made everything alone as per Isaiah 44:24, and because the NT says Jesus was involved
with making creation, then Jesus must be the LORD God.
Before analyzing the passage in question, and the relationship of Christ with God, I am going to provide some
evidence that has to be taken into account when interpreting our passage.

Part 1 Isaiah Chapters 40-41Outline

Before looking at chapter 44 there is a theme that needs to be recognized in the context of the earlier chapters. From at
least chapter 40 the LORD God is criticizing, deriding, and belittling the people for making idols and false gods. He is
telling them that the false gods do not exist and that the people are an abomination for believing that they do.
Isaiah 40:3 A voice cries: In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a
highway for our God.
18 to whom then will you liken God, or what likeness compare with him?
19 An idol! A craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains.
25 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One.
Vs18 God asks who will they liken to God? What compares to God?
Vs19 Is God compared to an idol? An idol made by human beings? A cast idol covered with gold, and silver chains
Vs20 That was the best that the people had, and God was pressing them to compare Him with those idols.
God is speaking through Isaiah asking the people about their false gods, and who they compare God to?
Isaiah 41:14 Fear not, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel! I am the one who helps you, declares the LORD;
your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.
23 Tell us what is to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods; do good, or do harm, that we may be
dismayed and terrified.
24 Behold, you are nothing, and your work is less than nothing; an abomination is he who chooses you.
29 Behold, they are all a delusion; their works are nothing; their metal images are empty wind.
Vs14 God is annoyed at His people and refers to them as a "worm."
Vs23 God is asking the idols to prove they are gods by predicting the future.
Vs23 God asks the idols to do either good or bad, something to persuade others that they are real.
Vs24 God says they are nothing. Their work is nothing.

Vs24 People who choose idols are an abomination.

Vs29 God says the idols and false gods are a delusion. People are deluded for believing in idols.
Vs29 The idols works are nothing. The false gods metal images are wind.
The LORD God continues to belittle, deride, and discredit the idols and false gods. He does the same to the people
who believe in them.
Summary
Isaiah 40:1-31 God is talking through Isaiah asking the people about their false gods, who they compare God to?
Isaiah 41:1-29 The LORD God continues to belittle, deride, and discredit the idols and false gods. He does the same to
the people who believe in them.

Part 2 Isaiah chapters 42-43

God continues his discourse, berating the people for their beliefs in false gods and idols.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit
upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations.
5 Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and
what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it:
8 I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols
16 And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide
them.
17 They are turned back and utterly put to shame, who trust in carved idols, who say to metal images, You
are our gods
18 Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see!
Vs1 God referring to His servant who has God's Spirit in him.
Due to the context of the previous and following verses this must be referring to Isaiah, God's prophet.
It has a prophetic fulfillment in Jesus in the NT.
Vs5 Isaiah continues on God's behalf restating that YHWH God made the heavens and the earth etc
Vs8 YHWH God does not give his praise to idols
Vs8 Although God says He does not give His glory to others, he does!

Vs16 The LORD/YHWH will lead the spiritually blind people and guide them
Vs17 The people who believed in idols, said they were gods, are put to shame
Vs18 The people are deaf and blind should listen and see.
God, through Isaiah, continues to repeat that He created heaven and earth. God does not give his praise to idols or
false gods. The people are spiritually blind and deaf and utterly put to shame for believing in false gods and idols.
Isaiah 43:3 For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and Seba in exchange for you.
8 Bring out the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears!
10 You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know
and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after
me
11 I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.
Vs3 God again, for the umpteenth time, tells the people He is their God.
Vs8 God is about to forgive the blind and deaf people of Israel.
Vs10 No god was formed before the LORD.
Vs10 That there will be no god after the LORD does not equate to the possibility, because God is without end!

The analysis will identify that there were numerous OT and NT saviors, the point of this passage is to show that they
are only saviors because God worked through them in that way.
This is important to consider when addressing chapter 44.
The LORD God repeats, again, that he is their God, there are no gods, there never was any gods, nor will there ever be
any other gods. All this in reference to idols and false gods.
Summary:
Isaiah 42 God, through Isaiah, continues to repeat that He created heaven and earth. God does not give his praise to

Isaiah 43 The LORD God repeats, again, that he is their God, there are no gods, there never was any gods, nor will

Part 3 Isaiah 44:1-30

Chapters 40-43 have all repeatedly addressed idols and false gods, and the worthlessness and abomination of such
beliefs. Now in chapter 44 God through Isaiah continues in that vein, through Isaiah God increases His ridicule and
mocking of the people who make idols.
ESV Isaiah 44:11 But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen!
2 Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob my
servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your
offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
4 They shall spring up among the grass like willows by flowing streams.
5 This one will say, I am the LORDs, another will call on the name of Jacob, and another will write on his
hand, The LORDs, and name himself by the name of Israel.
Vs1 The LORD chose Jacob and Israel
Vs2 The LORD formed each and every person living
Vs3 The LORD God causes it to rain, he gives his spirit to his people
Vs5 People will declare in different ways how they belong to God
6 Thus

says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.
7 Who is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and set it before me, since I appointed an ancient
people. Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
8 Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old and declared it? And you are my witnesses! Is there a
God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any.
9 All who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit. Their witnesses neither see nor
know, that they may be put to shame.
10 Who fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing?
Vs6 Again, there is no god beside the LORD God
Vs7 The LORD is ridiculing the people for their beliefs, asks for other so called gods to speak up and prophecy
Vs8 The LORD asks if there is a god besides Him, He says he doesn't know one.
Vs9 The makers of idols are nothing
Vs10 What sense is it to make a god or false idol, God asks.
11 Behold,

all his companions shall be put to shame, and the craftsmen are only human. Let them all assemble,
let them stand forth. They shall be terrified; they shall be put to shame together.

The ironsmith takes a cutting tool and works it over the coals. He fashions it with hammers and works it
with his strong arm. He becomes hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water and is faint.
13 The carpenter stretches a line; he marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes and marks it with a
compass. He shapes it into the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house.
14 He cuts down cedars, or he chooses a cypress tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the
forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it.
15 Then it becomes fuel for a man. He takes a part of it and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread.
Also he makes a god and worships it; he makes it an idol and falls down before it.

Vs11 The men that made the idols, and their friends, shall be put to shame
Vs12 People make so called gods yet become hungry
Vs13 The carpenter makes a wooden idol of a man
Vs15 The same wood a person uses to make a fire, he uses to make a false idol to pray to

of it he burns in the fire. Over the half he eats meat; he roasts it and is satisfied. Also he warms himself
and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire!
17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, his idol, and falls down to it and worships it. He prays to it and says,
Deliver me, for you are my god!
18 They know not, nor do they discern, for he has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so
that they cannot understand.
19 No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked
bread on its coals; I roasted meat and have eaten. And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall
down before a block of wood?
20 He feeds on ashes; a deluded heart has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, Is there not a lie
in my right hand?
Vs16 A person uses the wood to make a fire for warmth and cooking
Vs17 he then makes an idol, worships and prays to it and says deliver me to the wooden idol
Vs18 Who has shut the eyes of the people??
Vs19 People dont have the discernment to question their actions
Vs20 The people are deluded and lead astray
21 Remember

these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant;
O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
22 I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed
you.
23 Sing, O heavens, for the LORD has done it; shout, O depths of the earth; break forth into singing, O
mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and will be glorified in Israel.
24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: I am the LORD, who made all
things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,
25 who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back
and makes their knowledge foolish,
Vs21 The LORD made Jacob and Israel
Vs22 The LORD has forgiven his people, again.
Vs23 The heavens, the depths of the earth, the mountains, the forest and every tree are told to sing to God
Vs24 The LORD God made the people in the womb, and made all things. God made the heavens and the earth
without help from the false gods and without the man-made idols.
Vs25 The LORD who doesnt allow diviners predictions to come true
26 who

confirms the word of his servant and fulfills the counsel of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, She
shall be inhabited, and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and I will raise up their ruins;
27 who says to the deep, Be dry; I will dry up your rivers;

28 who

says of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and he shall fulfill all my purpose; saying of Jerusalem, She shall
be built, and of the temple, Your foundation shall be laid.
Vs26 God helps the predictions of the prophets to come true
Vs27 If need be, God can stop the rain.
Vs28 God predicts a man called Cyrus would come
150 years later Cyrus defeated the Babylonians and released the Jews
Summary:
Vs6 There is no god besides the LORD God
Vs7-10 God continues to shame and taunt the people for their false gods and idols
Vs11-15 The people who make false gods and idols will be put to shame
Vs16-20 God continues, the people are deluded and lead astray
Vs21-25 God made Jacob and Israel and forgiven the people again. He made all things without the false gods.
Vs26-28
The entire chapter has the same theme as chapters 40-43 which is God telling the people not to make false gods and
idols because such things are an "abomination." The point of vs24 was in keeping with the rest of the chapter to relay
the point that He didn't need any help from any false gods or idols as they were "wind."
This was not the point in time to go into doctrinal discussion as to the existence of His son who helped Him, or angels
that were there with him.

Part 4A Isaiah 44:24

A close look at vs24

The four words in the middle of the sentence are underlined because they are in a different order from the KJV. I am
unsure which is correct, or if it makes a difference.
Vs24a The LORD formed people in the womb

Summary:
There is doubt that the words alone and "myself" are in the Hebrew text. We do know from the book of Job that the
angels were there with Him so He was not strictly alone. Alone does not preclude any additional help, if God alone
made the helpers!

Part 5 Out of Context

This Part 5 is not to throw doubt on the true meaning and definitions of certain words but to realize that while a
passage might, on the face of it, seem to say one thing, it in fact doesn't mean exactly that.
Deut 33:28 So Israel lived in safety, Jacob lived alone, in a land of grain and wine, whose heavens drop down
dew
Jacob lived alone was not strictly true, it may have been for a period of time.
Exodus 18:14 Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?
Moses was not really alone if all the people were standing around him.
Mark 6:47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land
Jesus was not alone on the land because the land is huge and there were people somewhere in the vicinity.
Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
There are numerous passages that identify people as being, or doing, good. Jesus was making a point.
Luke 5:21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, Who is this who speaks
blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
We know that Jesus sent his disciples out telling them that they could forgive people.
Luke 9:18 Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them,
Who do the crowds say that I am?
If the disciple were with him, then he wasn' alone.
Revelation 15:4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will
come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.
If this were true then no person would get to heaven according to Hebrews 12:14
Additionally we are a holy priesthood according to 1 Peter 2:5

The point of these scriptures is to show that it is possible to take them all out of context. We all know that each of
these passages are or were true in some way, when taken in context. But not completely accurate.
The same is to be said of Isaiah 44:24, although God was alone in comparison to needing false gods or idols to help
him with creation we know it not to be 100% true. Angels were there, and Jesus was there who did help Him.

Final Conclusion:
In Isaiah 42:8 God says He will not give His glory to another, yet on numerous occasions he does
In Isaiah 43:11God says He is the only Savior, yet on numerous occasions others were saviors.
In Isaiah 44:24 God says he made everything alone, yet we know from the NT that Jesus was involved. Perhaps
angels. The points God was making was
1/ He would not give His glory, or praise, to false gods or idols
2/ The false gods and idols could not save them, they were not saviors.
3/ God made the heavens and the earth without any help from any false gods or idols.
This was not the time for doctrinal discussions regarding the intricacies of the stated topics.
As we know from other scripture, Jesus was fully involved and used in the creation.
At the time of Isaiah 44 God was dealing with his people Israel, they did not fully comprehend that Jesus was around
until Jesus was revealed in the NT. It would have been confusing to the people of the time if God had said I created
everything with Jesus or something similar because the time was not right for Jesus to be revealed to the world.

Even Jesus, in Matthew 19:3-4 and Mark 10:6, recognized that it was written that the LORD God made the first
human beings male and female. Therefore it is fitting that the LORD God, is uniquely called the creator.
Furthermore, since Jehovah God is the one primarily responsible for all this creative work, and he put Jesus in place as
Lord, it is ascribed to Him.
Therefore nothing in Isaiah 44:24 says that Jesus is God.
