Class: 7th and 8th

Grade: 5th

Objectives: To enforce good behavior during class, to review songs and concepts from page 17,
and continue working our way through playing Lets Go Band by reviewing what we went over
yesterday with new notes and fingerings.
Procedure:
Remind students about their Houses to earn stickers
Warm Ups (when 70% is ready)
o Rhythm
From Lets Go Band
Write on board
Ta sh ta sh ta sh ta ta and repeat
o Breathing (repeat each 2x)
Stay seated
Breathe in for 4 and ts for 8
Breathe in for 4 and ts for 12
Breathe in for 4 and ts for 16
Breathe in for 4 and play B-flat for 8
Breathe in for 4 and play B-flat major chord for 8
Clarinets and flutes F (G)
Saxophones and trumpets D (B and E)
Low brass B-flat
Breathe in for 2 and play chord for 8
Breathe in for 1 and play chord for 8
o Horns up/horns down and stopping exercise
Call all students attention to be watching me
Raise arms up for horns up
Arms go down for horns down
Practice playing concert B-flat and stopping when I show
o Play through warm up number 1 and number 2
Use breath support from warm ups
Remind students to use legato tonguing
Ask students what that means
Say da instead of ta
Change dynamic levels
Begin at mezzo forte

o Start as duet to review
o Remind them to look at dynamics
o Start with flutes and trumpets on A and clarinets, saxes, and trombones/baritones
on B
o Switch next time they play
If time, start 2.28 on page 17
o Remind them of melody and harmony
If you have moving notes should you play out more?
If you have whole notes should you play out? Why?
o Ask where dynamic changes, make sure they can find it in their music
Quietly take out Lets Go Band
o Review slur
Ask if they remember what it means
Demonstrate slur on my clarinet then demonstrate tonguing
Have students try sluring B-flat to C back to B-flat
Review slurring with trombones from advisory
Tongue notes using our legato articulation to avoid gliss
o Review notes and fingerings from yesterday
Flutes E natural/A-flat
Clarinets/Trumpets F-sharp
Trombones/Baritones E-natural
Saxophones C-sharp
o Everyone play at measure 33 because it is the unison part of the piece
o Start from beginning if time
Have students pack up and must sit back down
In order to leave, students must sit quietly to listen to our announcements
o Practicing and practice logs
o Lets Go Band look at it for tomorrow
o Playing test on page 16 later this week and explain rubric

Outcomes:
Students will understand balance of melody and harmony
Students will learn new notes
Students will know how to slur
Students will know how to stop
Students will know when to bring horns up and down
