A. The Lesson

1. Introduction (10 Minutes)

Getting Attention

2.

Students will meet in the gym and line up in roll call order.
Roll will be taken and the students will be informed that we are starting a lifting unit.
The students will be released to change and head into the weight room.
Content Delivery (35 minutes)
When all the students have gotten to the weight room we will go over all the rules and
regulations when in the weight room, as well as all the safety precautions that need to be
taken to ensure that no one gets hurt.
After we have gone over the rules, the students will be broken up into two groups. I will
number the kids off to save time while doing this.
The students will gather around the cooperating teacher and myself to be instructed on
that they are going to take a pre test on the three main lifts. They will attempt to the best of
their abilities to show proper lifting techniques. I will give them a score between 1 and 5.
There will be absolutely no instruction given for this pre test, I want to see what the kids
already know.
The scores will be recorded and this exact same test will be given at the end of the unit
to see student growth.
The rubric is as follows,
1= Poor
2= Below Average
3= Average
4= Above Average
5= Perfect

3. Closure (10 Minutes)

When every student has gone through all three tests, they will be gathered together and
informed that they will tested on these same tests again at the end of the unit, and I will be
keeping all their information to turn in as my final project.
The students will pick up all the equipment and go in to change out for the rest of their
classes.
B. Assessments Used
The students will be given their pre assessment, with no instruction to see their initial scores for all three
lifts. They will be scored based on the rubric above.
C. Differentiated Instruction
If a student needs assistance they will be given it. However, no skill instruction will be given during this
lesson, due to the fact that we want to see student growth and need to get an actual interpretation of where
the students are initially.
