THE LEGEND OF MALIN KUNDANG(NARRATIVE TEXT)

One day in the Minang land, there lived an old mother or her son could call him by
name “Bundo” and her son named Malin kundang or called Malin.
Malin kundang is a smart boy, and liked to help his mother to take the firewood in
the forest near his house, but he’s little bit naughty.
Feeling sorry for the mother who slam the bones for a living to raise themselves.
Malin decided to go wander in order to become rich after return home letter. Mother Malin
Kundang initially disagree, since her husband also never return to the hometown but Malin
insisted that he would eventually go wandering off Malin aboard a merchant ship. During
he stay in the boat, Malin kundang lot to learn about the seamanship of the crew that
have been experienced. Along the way, suddenly ridden ship Malin Kundang were
attacked by pirates. All commodities traders who were on the ship seized by pirates. Even
most of the crew and people on the ship were killed by the pirates. Malin Kundang lucky,
he had hid in a small space enclosed by the timber so as not to be killed by the pirates.
Malin Kundang in limbo amid the sea, until finally ship stranded on a beach. With the
remaining energy, Malin Kundang walked to the nearest village from the beach. Malin
marooned villages where the village is very fertile. With tenacity and perseverance in
work, Malin gradually became a wealthy man. He has a lot of merchant ships with men of
more than 100 people. Having become rich, Malin Kundang marry a girl to be his wife.
The News of Malin Kundang who has become rich and have been married to the mother
also hear that news. Malin Kundang’s mother feel grateful and very happy her son had
succeeded. Since then, every day Malin's mother went to the dock, waiting for her son
who may return to his hometown.
After some time married, Malin and his wife made the voyage with crew and a lot of
bodyguards. Malin's mother who saw the ship coming into dock saw two people standing
on the deck of a ship. He believes that standing was his son and his wife Malin Kundang.
Malin's mother was heading toward the boat. Once close enough, she saw the scar right
hand of the person, the more convinced his mother that he was approached Malin
Kundang. "Malin Kundang, my son, why did you go so long without sending you?", she
said, hugging Malin Kundang. But to see an old woman dressed in tattered and dirty held
Malin Kundang became angry even though he knows that the old woman was his mother,
because she was embarrassed when it was known by his wife and his men. Get treated
like that of his son's mother is very angry Malin Kundang. He had not expected her to be
rebellious child. Because of mounting anger, Malin's mother swore her son "Oh God, if he
was my son, I swear he became a rock". Soon Malin Kundang again went to sea and in the
middle of the trip came a violent storm destroyed the ship Malin Kundang. After that Malin
Kundang body slowly becomes stiff and over time eventually shaped into a rock. Until now
Malin Kundang Stones can still be seen on a beach called Air Manih beach, in the southern
city of Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.
