Male athletes in UP wear skirts, dance for gender equality
Male athletes in UP Cebu wear skirts and dresses while doing Zumba to campaign for a gender-responsive Intramurals on March 26, 2015 in UP Cebu grounds. The activity is part of the University of the Philippine Cebu Gender and Development Offices HeforShe campaign: Towards a Gender Responsive Intramurals on 24-27 March 2015. This is not to perpetuate stereotypes, a statement from the UP Cebu Gender and Development Facebook page read. But to acknowledge prevailing stereotypes in gender binaries and be able to transcend from these categories. The campaign aims to raise awareness, empathy and solidarity among men in the fight against prevailing discrimination against women, allowing men to articulate the issues endured by women, and including them as crucial partners in the process of advocacy for women emancipation. The activity is co-sponsored by UP Political Science Society, Physical Education (PE) Programs and HeForShe-Cebu.
