Types of GA, Cont.
Parallel GA: GA is inherently parallel, parallel processors
can be used to evaluate fitness function. Also, multiple
subpopulations can exist (and processed) in parallel.
Elitism GA: Fittest chromosomes are passed on to the next
generation, unchanged (and can never be replaced by
another chromosome.)
Niched GA: Maintain several sub-populations of individuals
relating to different good solutions
— Advantages: Multimodal functions, Competing
conventions...
Meta-level GA: GA on top of another GA. Ex. A two level
GA where one GA is used to control the parameters of the
other GA.
Fuzzy GA: If human expertise exist, it can be used to
determine/adjust parameters of GA such as probability of
mutation and crossover, and scaling of fitness function.
