SEMINAR SYNOPSIS
AIM
Presentation about Android which is a software platform and operating system for
mobile devices, based on the Linux kernel, developed by Google.
DESCRIPTION
Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system,
middleware and key applications. This beta version of the Android SDK provides the
tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using
the Java programming language.
The next generation of open operating systems won’t be on desktops or mainframes but
on the small mobile devices we carry every day. The openness of these new
environments will lead to new applications and markets and will enable greater
integration.
A beta version of the Android SDK is available for download. Along with the Android
Framework and application libraries, it includes sample projects with source code, a
device emulator, and development tools for monitoring and debugging your code and
GUI layout. Android relies on Linux version 2.6 for core system services such as
security, memory management, process management, network stack, and driver model.
The kernel also acts as an abstraction layer between the hardware and the rest of the
software stack.
Applications of android are email client, SMS program, calendar, maps, browser,
contacts, and others. All applications are written using the Java programming language.
