Objectives: Student will be able to describe events and characters from a text using
complete sentences that address the who, what, when, where, and why?

Procedure:
Open ( 5-10 mins.)
-Read out loud, readers theater, or partner read The Three Little Pigs. Check for
understanding throughout.
Have students create personalized copies of The Three Little Pigs in order to
reinforce their understanding of the characters and plot.
-List and define any key vocab or verb tenses on word wall in a class discussion.
Body (20-25 mins.)
Provide student with Touchdown Worksheet with 5 questions regarding the story
(who?,what?, when?,where?, and why?).Students can work individually or in
partners.
Provide an example of outlined sentence format for student to reference while
completing the worksheet. (Example: The third little pig (verb) _ his house out of
________. )
Provide vocab clarification and encouragement.
Once student has completed 5 sentences using the correct verb tense and complete
sentences they get to score a touchdown.
Student is given a nerf football and gets to throw it through and suspended hula
hoop or student can crunch up worksheet and try to throw it in the recycling for a
touchdown.
Close ( 5-10 mins)
Students will show their five sentences, which will be checked my teacher for
proficiency. They will be encouraged to persevere and fix any sentences before
getting to score a touchdown with the crunched up worksheet or a nerf football.

Assessments: Student will complete an exit ticket (the rose, the thorn and the rose
bud) showing his understanding of verb tenses and sentence structure. Student will
complete a quick formative assessment writing a sentence about something that
happened in the past (thorn), something they are enjoying presently(rose),

something they are looking forward to (rose bud). Collection of exit tickets would
allow you to track student progress.
