Focusing on You
As any innovative leader should, I have developed a mission statement that coincides
with my beliefs on education. My mission is to build on to the academic legacy of the
institution where I am employed through my professional experiences in teaching and
learning using data driven instruction and results. I value structure, accountability and
integrity. These core values help me stay focused and reach my goals and dreams. I
only surround myself with likeminded professionals and I have two best friends. The
first is my best friend Chris whom serves as the Director of Human Capital for Youth
Villages, an organization that works with troubled youth. The other is Brandon whom
is also an educator and teaches in a local elementary school. Currently, I enjoy and
love every aspect of my job. I am able to connect with students, parents, and
administrators. Having a well- rounded rapport with each helps me make strides in
the work I do daily and is what makes me most special. So that I can reach my
maximum potential and execute my mission, I believe that more field experiences
outside of my current place of employment will benefit me and help me fulfill my

mission. This is a challenge that I can overcome and defeat.

Focusing on Your Profession Development Plans
I have no intentions on waiting on someone else to identify and develop a plan that
meets my needs. I am innovative and can do this on my own. In the short, my goal is
to complete the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State
University. Long term, I would like to eventually elevate to the community college
presidency. My mentor was recently promoted to Vice-President of Student Affairs
for Tennessees largest community college. This is definitely a testament to motivate
me to be the best that I can be and know that all things are possible. I meet with my
mentor once a month for lunch or dinner and discuss issues that are relative to my

success in education. I have developed goals separate of those around me. I have
never been a bandwagon type of person. To facilitate my plan, I must recognize that it
will take hard work and endurance. I also know that I will have to rely on my faith to

help me through.
Analyzing Your Plans
Honestly, I dont truly know what it is that I want. I have a family that motivates me
to reach my goals and dreams and are very supportive of my ideas and decisions. All
of my needs are met and this keeps me on the path to success. I can honestly say that
everyone in my life values me in some way or other. Most of the characteristics tof
the people that surround me include loving, determined, and motivated. If I were
independently wealthy, I would build academic assistance centers in low income
communities so that they could receive a high quality education. In the next 24 hours
to be better than I am today, I will continue to do what I am doing currently- studying.
My strengths and weaknesses match up with my life and I consider myself to be very
competitive. If I could write my own eulogy, I would simply say, Servant, Well

Done. I believe that I am fulfilling the mission of what I was placed here for.
Constructing Your Professional Development Plan
I can identify specific goals that I have set for myself. I can assess my strengths and
weaknesses and have aligned them with my aspirations. I believe that I profit from
mistakes by gaining an experience that needed to be had. This helps shaping me for
future experiences. Honestly, I believe I am my biggest cheerleader and advocate and
I spend all of my time around positive people. I believe in lifting as I climb and taking
care of my needs mentally, emotionally, and physically. I dont have a mental stress
plan because I believe in not letting things stress me out. If cant do anything about a

situation, I simply let it go.

Managing You Professional Development Journey

If I dont trust anything else, I trust myself to handle my own affairs. If I had to draw
an organizational chart on my life, it would look something like this:

God
Self
Family

Finances

Educatio

I dont really have support needs other than having the basic necessities and I dont
consider myself to be high maintenance. As with any journey, some adjustments will
be needed and I plan to make them as I go and I believe that my goals are worth every

single thing I have experienced therefore, I am willing to pay the price.
