End -of Year-Outcomes (End of year Evaluation with Administrator regarding your progress on your goals).
One area that I am particularly strong in is classroom management. I believe that in my classroom students should have a fun and exciting time in their learning, while also making
connections and realizations throughout and across the content areas. All knowledge should relate to the real post-high school world, and I work hard to incorporate this into my
lessons. I believe that I manage classroom time efficiently, but I also know when students need to take a break; whether it is to talk to a peer and work on social skills or to get up
and move for a brain break. Furthermore, I am able to manage time effectively during a lesson, providing appropriate wait time for my students to respond, and providing adequate
work time for classwork, partner discussions, or quizzes. By managing a classroom successfully, I am able to gain control of the room (in a positive manner) and build deeper
relationships with my students because I do not have to worry about discipline or behavior.
As I continue to improve on my teaching, I need to work on the speed at which I give directions and instructions. Recently, I have provided too many directions at once, giving my
students an overload of information leading to no progress. Instead, I need to focus on giving directions in steps or chunks, and allowing students work time on each of these
individual chunks. If a large segment of directions is necessary, students can repeat the directions to a peer or one student can retell the directions to the whole class. This will help
to eliminate confusion and help me see potential problems before they occur. While I continue to work on time management, this previous weakness has become a strength in my
teaching. I also need to work on my parent outreach, which has yet to occur in this semester of student teaching. I plan on making contacts with all parents to introduce myself as I
begin full-time teaching, and then follow up with some phone calls about good things. By stepping into a full-time mindset, this is an important piece of special education that I
cannot overlook.
