English

In order to being prepared to teach English Language Arts/ English Language/ English
Language Development means acquiring a strong content knowledge base in reading, writing,
speaking, and listening and language. Literacy and language are fundamental elements of every
discipline and should be taught in ways that further students development of their skills, abilities
and knowledge in literacy, language, and the specific areas of study. This means students need
help and support to become proficient in these entire domains to be prepared for college, careers
and civic life. It means helping students understand the importance of reading and writing and by
that teachers should model how to read text closely by thinking about content, new vocabulary,
returning to the text for primary sources also how to write and use correct grammar and complete
sentences.
Throughout my schooling, I have developed as a reader, writer, listener and speaker. Also
the ability to read perceptively, write effectively and think critically. In my LBS 355 class it
helped me to become a better reader, writer, listener, and speaker by reading and writing papers
on how to analyze educational writing, literature reviews, case studies, classroom observations,
and school communication. My English 350 class also taught me techniques of emphasis,
strategies of editing and revising an essay. One example is to read loud the text and understand
what is being read, and then analyze it before writing about it. My professor in English 350
always told me that the more I read the better my writing would get. In my English class 487, it
also taught me to understanding how there are so many schools that have language-diverse
students and the history of second-language teaching.

My artifact is a book on grammar and an essay about my book from English 487:
Introduction to Second Language Teaching and Learning. This book and essay required me to
understand the importance of teaching grammar to English Learners, which connects to the
English Language Arts/ Literacy and the English Language Development Standards. This book
and essay also demonstrates my understanding of Second Language and why so many students
have a hard time learning this new language. This also demonstrates my ability to analyze
sources and write a well-developed essay. With this understanding of how to help English learns
I would make sure that in my future class all my students learn the ability to read , write and
communicate with confidence that well help them prepared for college, and civic life.
