PROPAGANDA
Propaganda of some sort had been used in warfare for centuries.

By Annette Guer r a- Ar mendar iz

"PROPAGANDA TRIES TO FORCE A DOCTRINE ON THE
WHOLE PEOPLE... PROPAGANDA WORKS ON THE GENERAL
PUBLIC FROM THE STANDPOINT OF AN IDEA AND MAKES
THEM RIPE FOR THE VICTORY OF THIS IDEA."
-ADOLF HITLER, MEIN KAMPF (1926)
Hitler advocated the use of
propaganda to spread the ideals of
National Socialism? among them
racism, antisemitism, and
anti-Bolshevism.

Propaganda is the art of

persuasion - persuading others
that your 'side of the story' is
correct.

for Nazi propaganda. The Germans
were reminded of the struggle against

foreign enemies and the Jewish.

Propaganda campaigns created an
atmosphere tolerant of violence
against Jews, particularly in 1935,
before the Nuremberg Race Laws of
September, and in 1938,prior to the
barrage of anti-semitic economic
legislation following Kristallnacht.
Propaganda also encouraged
indifference and acceptance of the
impending measures against Jews, as
these appeared to depict the Nazi
government as stepping in and

After the German invaded the Soviet

Union, Nazi propaganda emphasized
both civilians at home and to the
soldiers, the police and non-German
auxiliaries linking Soviet
Communism to European Jewry. Nazi
propaganda presented Germany as the
defender of "Western" culture against
the "Judeo- Bolshevik" threat, and
painting an apocalyptic picture of
what would happen if the Soviets
won the war. These themes may have
been instrumental in inducing Nazi
and non-Nazi Germans as well as
local collaborators to fight on until
the very end.

ARTEN VON PROPAGANDA

Goebbels had two main tasks:
to ensure nobody in Germany could read or see anything that was hostile or
damaging to the Nazi Party.
to ensure that the views of the Nazis were put across in the most persuasive
manner possible.

antisemitism, the
superiority of German
military power, and the
intrinsic evil of the enemies
as defined by Nazi

After the Nazis came to
power in 1933, Goebbels began to
clamp down on all forms of artistic
expression, banishing Jewish writers,
journalists and artists from Germany's
cultural life. He took control of the
news media, making sure that it
presented Germany's domestic and
foreign policy aims as in terms of
Nazi ideology.The liar played an
important role in creating an
atmosphere in Germany that made it
possible for the Nazis to commit

efforts boosting war morale. By 1944,
Germany had adopted Goebbels's war
plan, and in July of that year,

Goebbels was appointed general

plenipotentiary for total war. He
wrote innumerale articles and
speeches rousing the Germans,
promising weapons and providing
projections of a final victory.
He knew that the end of the
war would be the end of the Nazi
reign.
