Introduction:
As a teacher there are many components that need to be met to succeed as
an educator. After reading chapters 4, 5 and 6 of Learning & Teaching textbook by
Don Kauchak and Paul Eggen, I reflected on the responsibilities of TExES
competencies 3, 4 and 8. They share the same qualities of accountability on
effective teaching. What I have learned is that planning, teaching effectively and
student involvement are essential components of a students education.
Planning is essential to students learning, without a plan theres no structure
of events or a concrete objective. Material, objectives and activities are key
components of planning. Lessons should be specific to all readers. Teachers need to
plan and write step by step what is being taught and how it will be applied.
Compentencie 3 of TExES, states that a plan should be designed based on goals.
Teachers should perform an analysis of each lesson to confirm that it is age
appropriate and challenges students to a higher level of thinking. While planning a
lesson I will incorporate several techniques such as providing lessons that will
motivate them to achieve their potential. Reading chapter4 validated what I hope to
accomplish with my future students. Lesson activities that is boring and repetitive
and disengaging to the students. Incorporating music, art or dramatic play captures
the childrens curiosity to learn.
Teaching Effectively of chapter 5 focuses on different characteristics on
how teachers can be effective. Such as effective classroom environment and
academic learning time. These characteristics align with compentencie 4 Engaging
Instruction of the responsibilities of TExES. The teachers philosophy will navigate

the classroom setting. I as a future educator will have high expectations and
believe that all students will learn. Providing a positive learning environment in the
classroom will allow students to focus on their learning. Students need to feel
welcomed, included and acknowledged. Academic learning time is broken down for
several reasons. Teachers have plenty of material to cover in a short time. Its
important that every minute is effective to the learning of the students. Allocated
time, instructional time, engaged and academic learning times are parts in the day
on how to organize the time and the purpose for it.
Student involvement of chapter 6 along with the compentencie 8 of the
responsibilities of the TExES covers the role of a student and teacher. Educators
must practice appropriate instructional strategies and techniques to actively engage
the students motivation in learning. All lessons should have a purpose, what is
being taught and why? The objective should be precise and clear to the students.
The Lesson should be written for all learners. Using charts, graphs allow students to
have a visual. Demonstrations are made for students to explore, feel smell even
taste. These techniques bring realization to the lesson.
Conclusion
Planning learning experiences that are engaging to students and designing how
students will learn is the foundation of effective teaching. I have learned positive
innovated techniques to use with my future students. I look forward to applying
these competencies of responsibilities of the TExES as a future educator.
