A luxury hotel and resort finds an

efficient route to significant savings.
Foxhills Hotel and Resort is a luxurious club in
Surrey, convenient for Heathrow Airport and host to
weddings, corporate events, romantic breaks and
family getaways. A private club set in 440 acres, it
was chosen to host the British cycling team during
the Olympic road test event due to its combination
of health facilities and luxurious surroundings. There
are 70 bedrooms, five swimming pools, twelve tennis
courts, a spa and two championship golf courses as
well as a fully equipped conference centre.
With an annual power consumption of 2,074,236kWhr and a
monthly electricity bill of approximately 13,000, the facilities
team is always keen to ensure that its members are getting
full value for their money. Foxhills has been considering a
voltage optimiser for some time, and has looked at many
models that offer a fixed reduction to bring the standard
supply of over 240v down to a more energy efficient level.

Working with iVolt distributor Powercor they considered

the advantages of the UK manufactured system. iVolt is
designed to monitor the peaks and troughs of the existing
supply and actively reduce it to a steady 220v (+/-1.5%). This
takes out the risk of undervoltage and allows for up to 30%
greater saving than with a fixed reduction system.
The other deciding factor was the integration of IRT Energy
Monitoring technology; this unique resource allows real
time monitoring of savings so that the client can see value for
money from the moment they turn on the system.
In 2011 Powercor installed an IVO3x800-12-2 unit in the main
substation to provide a regulated supply to the entire site.
The convection ovens, the pool plant and the light fittings
account for about 65% of the total power consumption. To
find energy efficient solutions for all of these would be costly,
disruptive and time-consuming.
The iVolt is a one off investment with zero disruption to the
running of the hotel and offers benefits across the whole
site; reducing power bills by more than 10% - which equates
to over 15,500 per annum cutting maintenance costs on
heavy equipment and significantly reducing expenditure on
new lamps.

Main features and benefits of installing an iVolt:

Maximum possible energy saving. Up to 30% more than fixed units and
expected savings typically between 10%-15%
Built-in IRT measurement allowing the stakeholder to instantly realise and
measure saving
Using the IRT feature, savings are real and not theoretical. Independent of
site variation post-install or environmental factors
No risk of pushing the site into under voltage
Always providing 220V (+/-1.5%)
Balancing all phases to the same voltage level
Improving power quality and ironing out variations
Solid state technology and no maintenance required
