Reflection
1. My first Idea originated from the Chris McCandless story, I was thinking about how the reasons Chris
might have died and how it might have been prevented if he had been more prepared. I also wanted to
add in what effects isolation had on his decision making skills but that made my search to big so I had
to drop it. My topping is now solely on camping and survival skills.
2. I started off my research using the library databases which yielded some but not many results and
most of them were not very useful. I found this surprising because for all my past papers I have
found the libraries resources to be significantly more useful than anything else. I think the reason the
libraries resources were not as useful is because they were to narrow and more experimental than I
needed them to be. Due to the subject matter I found outdoor magazines to be the most useful
resource for my paper.
3. I was surprised to find the library to be not as helpful as I needed. I found a lot of information about
my topic in outdoor websites and magazines but not so much in the library database. I kept my topic
though because there was plenty of information about it in educational magazines and in my own
experience.
4. For my essay I decided to write informal because a lot of the essay is informative and base on my
own experiences and so I wanted to be able to include that without dodging the word I or not being
aloud to use my opinion.

5. My critique group help me a little by helping me brainstorm ideas or making sure I was doing
everything right and that I was understanding what we needed to do for something. I found my group
useful.
6. This inquiry project was different in the fact that my research didn't go as I had planned. Most of the
time the UNCC library website has all the information that i needed and i didn't have to worry about
finding any other resources but for this project they had very little on the topic of camping so I had to
use search engines to try and find good scholarly resources and I found that very difficult. So for the
first time I have had to be very careful about the websites I chose to be used in my essay because
most of the time it was easy just using the library.
7. I didn't know all that much about camping or at least i didn't realize it until after I wrote the paper. I
had been camping before but i had never practiced putting my experiences in a paper so that was new
for me. I had to really think about my first hand experience and use that information to articulate in
regard to my paper and that was new for me.
