Planning for Interview One

Interviewees Name:Daniel Shaw
Date and Time of interview:

How will you record the interview?

We will record the interview with professional cameras in a studio

In what medium (audio, visual, written etc) will the final interview be presented?
It will be presented in a chat show medium with bit background music to emphasise that it is a
gaming show.
What information do you need to get from this interview?
To better understand video games in the development world and how video games are in this
generation

Describe how you are planning on contacting and liaising with your talent (interviewee)

I will be contacting my talent by directly introducing him to the pitch of the show and the
requirements for him and his contribution of the show.

Production Booklet

How will you make sure unnecessary sounds etc are not recorded?
I will make sure unnecessary sounds are not recorded by using a pop-filter, as well as using an
enclosed room, to remove air noises. Furthermore, I will ensure that the microphone is at a
reasonable distance from my face: so no rusting and lip licking.

If visual recording, explain how you will deal with any issues caused by ambient light.
In the visual recording, to remove any visual errors: what I would need to is to dim the video at
section clips of the raw recording. By using gamma correction tools and contrast reductions.

What equipment will you need to carry out this interview?

To carry out this interview, I will need 3 high quality studio cameras, as well as a mini-microphone:
including props such as desks, sofas and a few mainstream gaming model props.

Production Booklet

Structuring your interview: Scripts and Question Formulation

Question:
What is it like being an indie developer?

Likely Response:
Being an indie developer, is about the same as being a
mainstream video game developer: accept you choose
when you want to work on it: there is no schedule.

Next Question:
What games have you personally made?

Likely Response:
I have made a few games like 8-bit games, 3D games and
some 2d maze games.

Next Question:
Why did you become an indie developer?

Likely Response:
Because I like developing games, however I like it more
when Im not tied down by anything: and I am not
bombarded by questions on the development of it.

Production Booklet

Question:
What are languages? In a computer sense?

Likely Response:
Languages are not far away from languages in the sense that
you know: computer language is the same as they use patterns
of abbreviated terms in order to create a path for the game to
use. Languages are the same as they use different words in a
patterned order in order to get something across

Next Question:
What sort of languages do you personally know?
Javascript
C++
html

Likely Response:
Javascript
C++
html

Next Question:
What languages are good for game development?

Likely Response:
For video games: the best languages are
Javascript
C++

Production Booklet

Question:
What is the general life of an indie developer?

Likely Response:
For me, as you would guess for a working day in one game
or another: as I have multiple Im working on: so I just
choose the one I want to work on and then Im developing
that for about 3 hours, then break then back on it.

Next Question:
How much time does it take generally, to produce one game?

Likely Response:
In overall days and for a mini game: you are looking at
around one to two months.
Bigger games can take over a year

Next Question:
How can I become an indie video game developer?

Likely Response:
Well, if you are interested in becoming a video game
developer: then you likely want to begin learning languages
such as C++ or JavaScript: recommend JavaScript
because it has multiple uses: then choose a 3d or 2d video
game software like Unity 3d or java

Interview Style for Interview One

Production Booklet

What will your interview style be? (formal, informal and chatty, intense, questioning, argumentative,
friendly, jokey)
Informal

Why have you chosen that style?

I have chosen this style, because the interview is supposed to be light-hearted: where the
interviewee feels comfortable and can address the answers to the questions in a passive way.

Add research of other interview/chat shows where the presenter has a similar style. You can insert
another page here for your research.

Define the format of your programme

What will happen in the first segment?
Begin with graphics/ logo of Lan Chat then start script with Harley Harrison, he will introduce himself as
well as introducing his peers. After he discusses the roles his peers play as well as himself, and he calls out
for the first person Dan

What will happen in the second segment?

In the second segment, Dan asks questions about how games work with his guest Marjid: an indie video
game developer who gives us an insight on how his life is.

What will happen in the third segment?

Harley shows his on-location interview, talking about how games are currently, mainly by the opinions of
Kirt, Then back in the studio with Marcus, where he talks to John about gaming and what games Marcus
should play.

Any further notes;

If on TV: Saturdays and Sundays between 8pm-10pm (because that is usually when gamers tend to watch
TV if any) on channels like Comedy Central and E4 as that is where you find the age group 14-18 (which is
the average group for gamers) especially in the UK.

Production Booklet

If posted on Youtube: the most popular place for gamers: as charts show that Lets Plays are the most
popular thing on Youtube.
Each segment will cut between roles in the live studio production

Production Booklet

Using your mind map, answer the following questions.

What will the presentation style be? (formal, informal and chatty)

Informal, the reason behind that is so the interview is very straight

and broad, however, both the interviewer and interviewee and use
quilloquial words or slang, using this tactic usually makes the
interviewee more relaxed in a studio environment, however you
could be more relaxed by it being a chatty show, however that
means that it is most likely that we will miss a lot of the primary
questions answered and we will wonder off to somewhere else.

Add research of other interview/chat shows where the presenter has a similar style.
