A
group
of
15
teachers
were
asked
these
two
questions:
what
is
the
purpose
of
assessment?
and
what
makes
a
good
assessment.
There
answers
were
as
follows
I
dont
know
if
there
is
a
perfect
assessment.
When
you
find
what
a
perfect
assessment
is,
let
me
know.
Assessments
are
inherently
affected
by
how
much
a
student
enjoys
the
subject.
To
determine
what
has
been
learned
in
order
to
determine
the
next
step
in
the
learning
process.
A
good
assessment
has
multiple
modalities;
answers
are
open-ended
The
purpose
of
assessments
is
to
find
out
what
kids
are
learning
and
what
teachers
need
to
reteach
or
teach
better.
A
good
assessment
is
one
that
students
can
also
learn
from.
The
purpose
of
assessments
is
to
check
for
student
understanding
over
a
short
period
of
time
or
long
range
To
find
out
where
teachers
need
to
go
back
or
fix
To
measure
how
much
students
have
learning
To
get
feedback
on
what
the
students
learn
in
a
particular
segment
A
good
assessment
is
finding
many
ways
to
find
information
on
student
learning
To
evaluate
student,
to
see
if
they
have
mastered
the
skills
they
have
been
taught
A
good
assessment
is
tied
to
what
they
have
been
taught
To
provide
quantifiable
data
that
allows
for
measurement
of
learning
A
good
assessment
is
relevant
to
what
was
learned
in
terms
of
content
and
skill
To
measure
student
growth
in
a
particular
skill
area
as
well
as
content
knowledge
A
good
assessment
measure
critical
thought
and
interaction
with
course
content
in
a
variety
of
ways
To
measure
the
progress
of
students
in
the
class.
Also,
to
allow
for
adjustments
to
be
made
throughout
the
year
Good
assessments
are
short
and
clear
For
the
teacher
to
check
for
understanding
and
also
to
show
evidence
of
learning,
for
the
teacher
to
make
adjustments
to
their
planning
and
focus.
A
good
assessment
depends
on
the
topic,
students,
ability
and
aptitude.
To
evaluate
learning
and
understanding
of
a
topic,
lesson
or
unit.
Good
assessments
evaluate
student
learning
in
different
ways
Allows
students
to
demonstrate
comprehension
of
content
and
allows
students
to
go
further
with
their
ideas
To
assess
how
much
students
have
learning
and
whether
than
can
understand
and
process
what
they
have
learning
A
good
assessment
requires
students
to
use
what
they
have
learned
in
a
meaningful
way.
