TIGER P.R.I.D.E
REFLECTION JOURNAL
FEBRUARY 11TH 2015
Overview
Wednesday February 11th was my first solo teach with tiger pride. The lesson was
a cooperative learning lesson focusing on aspects of teamwork designed for twenty 4th
grader students. For this lesson I needed 2 hula-hoops, 2 soft foam gator balls, 2 tall
cones and 2 dome cones. It took place on a flat surface free from obstructions and
dangerous potholes.
Student Learning Objectives
My Student Learning Objectives were as follows: Psychomotor-Students will be able to
perform basic motor skills like running, turning, crawling at different levels during the
cooperative learning activities with 70 percent accuracy. Cognitive-Students will be able
to define and discuss teamwork and strategies that can be implemented during
cooperative learning activities. Affective students will be able to support each other
through smiling, high-fives, and positive encouragement during teamwork activities. H-R
Fitness- Students will be engaged in moderate to vigorous physical activity for 50 percent
of the lesson. When looking back at my student learning objectives, I created ones that
could not really be measurable. However I felt that I was able to have students achieve
all of my learning objectives besides the health related fitness goal. According to my
Evaluation Team data, my SOFIT had students achieving above 50 percent MVPA, but
the overall class on was active for 12 minutes, just shy of 50 percent. Next time I could

try to create games that incorporate more Locomotor movements during the core
activities.

demonstration. Since the skills required were not that difficult, the student did not need
more demonstrations since they were able to reproduce the skills or activities.
With regards to equipment, I had no trouble with setting up the equipment since I
set it all up before the lesson began. During the clean up, I had students help me clean up
which saved time for the overall clean up but some students were moving slowly which
caused more management time. Next time I should try to motivate the students to
encourage faster clean up. During this lesson I had a few students who were acting up or
not doing what I had asked. I was a little lenient with the strikes and warned students a
lot about giving them strikes but never did. I should have been sterner with my strikes as
students were misbehaving.
I tried to motivate students by participating in the first few activities. While I was
participating I was trying to give off a positive and happy attitude while participating to
help the students feed off my energy. I also tried to have the students encourage each
other during the relay activity.
I believe that a one of my strengths from this past lesson was that I was patient
and tried to be understanding to the students when they were off task or misbehaving. I
felt I also did a good job of waiting till I had all the student attention. I also believe that a
strength that I had during this lesson was that my students were engaged and enjoyed the
activities that I planned. Next week I could focus on improving my attention getters to
speed up the process of my instruction. I also think that I can try to be sterner with my
strikes. And finally I think that I could improve my management time by improving my
instructions and organization.
Recommendations for next Session
Casey Fleming
There are many areas where I can improve for my next lesson. The first area I
could work on would be to be stricter with students who are misbehaving and with the
strikes. I also feel that I can try using attention getters to achieve the classes attention
before instruction. Based on this weeks performance, next week I want to make it my
main goal to get these student active with at least 50 percent mvpa in the next lesson. In
order to achieve this, I must improve my transitions, limit management time and try and
come even more prepared.
