CONCEPT PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES LTD CRITERIA USED FOR THE DESIGN OF MEZZANINE FLOOR STRUCTURES FOR RENASH LTD Prepared by: CPMS Ltd 168 Sevenoaks Way Orpington Kent BRS 3AQ Revision G ) y 9Q00000000000009009399090%9 Ooo OOOO OOOO OO OO FOF OO Fo, (3 1.0 FOREWORD WW This document is intended to identify the criteria, design parameters and methodology for the proposed mezzanine construction and installation, 20 TECHNICAL CONSIDERATION 21 5 IPW Technical Services Ltd have been appointed by Renash Ltd to carry out full structural designs for a mezzanine structure to the property. As part of IPW's brief they will be ascertaining the thickness of the existing floor slab and wien no clear records of the construction and thickness are available, a core test will be taken, 22 Base plates will be designed to ensure that the existing floor slab is not over stressed, the design shall comply with the requirements of Concrete Society Technical Report TR34. ‘The base plates will incorporate counter bolts and bevelled edges where required to minimise trip hazards. Where the base plates are sited within an existing storage area the base plates will be painted yellow to highlight them as a trip hazard. The standard size of the base plate will be 300mm, secured to the slab with 130mm long heavy-duty anchors. 23 ‘Vertical Columns The column height will be determined by site conditions. Columns shall ‘comprise of hot-rolled hollow steel sections. The steel sections shall be design grade $275 and conform to BSEN 0210-1. 3.0 CURRENT LEGISLATION 31 ‘All mezzanine floors will be designed to conform to the latest edition of Building Regulations in accordance with BS 5950 and BRE Digest 437. 32 Construction and installation to comply with Construction Design and Management Regulation 1994. 40 DESIGN LOADING 41 ‘The imposed loads on the mezzanines will be designed to 5.35 KN per m, which will allow a service and suspended ceiling hung from the mezzanine of 0.25 KN per m*. No part of the structure shall be physically attached to the perimeter compartment walls. DESIGN PARAMETERS 51 General The mezzanine floor will be designed to offer the maximum additional retail” storage space within the proposed unit subject to any local restrictions, floor load available, height access and emergency escape provision. 52 ‘The mezzanine floor grid of columns will be designed to suit the individual unit to ensure that the smallest number of columns are installed, ideally these will be designed to achieve a minimum of 7m x 7m grid, Where these spacings cannot be achieved due to the design of the existing floor slabs, pad foundations will be designed to maximise the spans available thus reducing the number of columns to the width of the unit. As itis difficult to install pad foundations adjacent to the ‘compartment walls, a goal post structure will be installed spreading the load from the mezzanine over 2no. vertical columns. 53 1 Heights ‘The finished floor level to the top of the chipboard decking height will be 3.6m where possible 10 provide a 600mm service void beneath before a suspended ceiling is installed, thus providing a ground floor ceiling height of 3m. However, where site conditions dictate, i.e. where there are low haunches, the section will be reviewed and a lower floor will be installed in order to optimise trading space on the first floor. 60 STAIRCASES 61 Entrance ‘The mezzanine floor will be designed with a feature entrance staircase, which will consist of either a powder-coated handrail or brushed-steel finish handrail with glass infills, Where units are 18m wide or less a single “L” shaped entrance staircase will be provided to either the left-hand side or right-hand side as you enter the store depending on which wall is closer to the entrance. Where stores are over 18m wide there are a further two standard details for a central located staircase, one being “T” shaped on the plan and one where the staircase will actually be recessed into the front edge of the mezzanine floor. 62 Fire Escape Means of escape staircases will also be shown to conform to Building Regulations means of escape approval, on the basis of one person per 2m, The ‘emergency escape staircases will be a protected means of escape and will provide a protected route direct to open air to either the front or rear of the premises as appropriate. 10 ENTRANCE VOID 7A ‘As a siandard detail, the front edge of the mezzanine will be set back from the front of the building between 6m and m. ‘This is to ensure that as you enter the store you have a good sight visibility line to the mezzanine floor. 72 The mezzanine will also be designed to provide an upstand fascia between a lowered ceiling and the mezzanine decking, this space can be utilised for internal signage. [73 To further improve sight lines and visibility into the store, the mezzanine will be designed to reduce columns that are visible from the entrance of the store, where. possible. 8.0 LIFT SPECIFICATION BI Tt is proposed that a Stannah System 21 - Maxi - MB passenger/disabled lift be installed. This lif will accommodate 8 persons and require a three-phase supply to operate same, See attached IPW lift pit details showing construction and size of the lift pit required. Alternatively an Axess A500 freedom platform lift will be specified, suitable for disabled passenger and attendant, This unit requires a single-phase supply, similar to lifts installed by Sports Soccer and Next Group PLC. 99) f ° ° ° ° ° 8 ° | Oe Gn OO a] Ooo 0 4 tt 6: Section 2 ~ Mezzanine Floor Plans CPMS/2734/10 Revision A. ~ Proposed Mezzanine Column Installation, Ground Floor Plan CPMS/2734/11 - Proposed Mezzanine Column Installation, First Floor Plan CPMS/2734/12 ~ Section ‘CPMS/2734/100 Revision A ~ Proposed Mezzanine Floor Installation, Ground Floor Plan CPMS/2734/101 - Proposed Mezzanine Floor Installation, Mezzanine Floor Plan CPMS/2734/20 - Extent of Mezzanine works as at Temporary Suspension of Contract C’oCocCGCEG6E666000000000000000 Nvld YOO ANNOYS a36040%4 (SAMYND) $337 - GNVT HSILIMa Ooo OO yO) NSS CoC GCGOCCOHOO0O00O0000000000 0 (SAWYND) SG3S1 - GNV1 HSILINa () i ©) ©) ¢ bo « (5 (i 0) 0) (0 OO 4 00 OF BRITISH LAND - LEEDS (CURRYS) PROPOSED GROUND FIOOR PLA BRITISH LAND - LEEDS (CURRYS) i \L_ fi PROPOSED MEZZANINE FLOOR PLAN 9797) 9) Ge9@Q0Q00000000000009 (00 0 0 © © 6) 6 ©) 0) 6) 65 0) 6) OF 5 05 Od (3 WU nec ecante y : ie Wh it a ee e ip) ii arte itt oR. it an if its ite Som PROPOSED GROUND FLOOR PLAN Section 3 ~ Structural Engineer’s Calculations and Drawings A. Where no data relating to the ground conditions and or floor slab construction has been provided by the Landiord the need for large pad foundations hes been assumed pending @ detailed site investigation which is beyond the scope of IPW's brietinstruction. ‘This document should be read In conjunction with the latest JPW and CPMS drawings which detail the ‘configuration and composition of the mezzanine under consideration. ) > GeV9d0DNDDDN DAV 9000000009099 GO 4 © 4 0 @ (5 0) ©) 6) ¢ t) 24. 22. Research has indicated that k has only @ minor effect on slab thickness design for flexural stresses ‘and does not therefore need to be estimated with great accuracy (section 6.2.2 TR 34). It has been ‘proven that an error of 25 % in the value of k only results in a maximum error In slab thickness ‘design of 2.6%.
