AS RELAY DIVISION GENERAL INFORMATION RK 623-301 E RER, Slay 1981 “inas ‘ Ealition 1 Replaces RK 795-300 E Reconnectible Ratio Nateli Transformers Type SLCE 12 Multi-Topped Auxiliary Current This Information describes reconnectible multl-tapped auxiliary current transformers type SLCE 12, intended for feeding trans- former differential relays with rated currents | A or 5 As The currents fed to the power transformer ace compared in a transformer differential relay with the currents fed out of the transformer with respect to magnitude and phase angle. To obtain this, auxiliary current transformers usually have to be connected between the differential relay and the main current transformers $0 that the current fed to the relay Is adopted with respect to magnitude and phase angle. By means of different connections of the primary and secondary windings of these auxiliary CT's. optional current ratios in the ratiges 0.65-2.60/1 A, 255-10,1/1 A and 2.83-11.2/3 A are obtained with aa accuracy of the secondary current of maximum. 43% of nominal value. Principles for calculation of suitable Gurrent ratios and standard connection diagrams for the auxiliary transformers arc given in Information RK 626 -101 Figure |. Terminal markings The auxiliary CT's are equipped with three secondary windings connected toa terminal block with six terminals marked 1 to ‘and with two primary windings with intermediate taps connected to a terminal block wlth six terminals marked 7 to 12. The transformers have also a third terminal block with their terminals marked Pl ~ P2, $1 =S2 and to which the external connections should be connected, See fig. 2. The tables 1, 2 and 3 state the Internal connections required to odtaln the right turns ratio and a secondary current of either 1A or 3 A, when the primary current lies within a given range. If the auxillary CT is ordered with a certain ratio, it will be delivered marked and connected for this ratio. SELECTION OF CURRENT RATIO |n some cases, calculation of currents fed to the differential relay gives as 9 result a secondary current for the auxillary Gurrent transformer which is less than 1 A of 3 A, alternatively, Then one can choose a current transformer with rated secondary Current 1A or 5A, respectively, having a current ratio equal to the ratio between the calculated values of the primary current (,) and the secondary currant (1) Fog. Calculated valuest |, = 3.6 A and, = 4.5 A. Choose an auxiliary CT with 5 A secondary current ratio, i X28 gives xen Hence, choose current transformer SLCE 1? according to 4785 040-VS with current ratio 4.0/3 A. Even if the secondary windings of the auxillary CT's in a three phase group will be delta-connected and the desired secondary current is 1/73 A or 5/93 A, auxiliary CT's with rated secon- dary currents | A resp. 5 A can be used, 11-JUN-2008 09:52 BURDEN POST463/20KY*ARDAKANE 0352 7222411 P03 RK 625-301 £ 3 E.g Calculated valuest aL Aandtye I Y3A be ditly gives x 2227 Hence, choose current transformer SLCE 12 according to 4785 040-VP with current ratio 2.27/1 A. Maximum permnissible resistance in the wires between the auxili- ary current transformers and the differential relay depends on which saturation factor Is needed. For an arbitrary burden a saturation factor (n) can be calculated according to the following formulat a OMT Bare pee 2d where a= a constant (ohms), which depends on the design of the current transformer and the frequency of the net- work. It is given In Table 1, 2 and 3 at 30 Hz. The value is 20 per cent higher at 60 Hz. b= the impedance of the secondary winding according to Table 1, 2 or 3. = the impedance of the burden (wires and the difteren- tial relay). The rated primary current multiplied by the calculated satur= ation factor gives the rated primary current at which the ratio error is about 10%. This Is valid when the primary current is sinusoidal. At asymmetrical transient currents, the dics component of the current strives to saturate the core at a lower current than the one stated by the saturation factor. The saturation factor should correspond te. the maximuin through-fault current but should not be below 30. Jn caso of @ long time-constant a large throuph-fault current with superimposed dec. component can cause saturation of the auxillary CT's. Then, in order to avoid faulty operation of the differential relay for external fault, it is recommended to connect auxiliary current transformers of the saine design inte each of the secondary current circuits Highest saturation factor is reached when the transformers and the differential relay have a | A rated current.
