Earth Science S1E1.
Students will observe, measure, and communicate weather data to see patterns
in weather and climate.
a. Identify different types of weather and the characteristics of each type.
b. Investigate weather by observing, measuring with simple weather instruments
(thermometer, wind vane, rain gauge), and recording weather data (temperature,
precipitation, sky conditions, and weather events) in a periodic journal or on a
calendar seasonally.
c. Correlate weather data (temperature, precipitation, sky conditions, and weather
events) to seasonal changes.

Describe how you would Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing
Opportunity in your classroom:
Students will engage in this interactive website, by learning patterns to weather.
Students will learn patterns through Journey North. This will give them course
related content that will help them on their assignment. I then will give the
students a pre-test to make sure the students understands the patterns and how
it effects birds and leaves. I then will allow them to video more videos on Journey
North, showing how to investigate nature. I then will have a group discussion on
that topic. I will have the students gear up to become scientist and explore
nature. I will ask them to pick up two nature related objects that have been effect
by the weather. We will come back to class and view the objects under a kid
friendly microscope. We will then have the students choose one object that they
will talk about in front of the classroom. Then we will have presentations
regarding the nature related objects and how it was affected by the weather.
These presentations will be recorded by the teacher and combined into a video
that will be placed on the teachers blog. ( with parents permission)
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed
learning activity in a classroom?
The technologies that would be required to implement this proposal is a computer
with internet. This is so we can allow students to visit Journey North.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience
(note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you
are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom
1

and often beyond their school:

The students will collaborate with peers in group discussions.
Students will also explore the nature outside and collaborate with
peers and teachers to collect data.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original
data and or producing original products as a result of engaging in the
project):
Students will have the ability to choose any data related to the topic
given. This gives students a chance to explore.
c. Higher-order thinking:
Students will connect the relationships of weather with their data.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care
about their product:
Students will be filmed while presenting, then merged into a video
that will be placed on the classrooms blog.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning
activity and Why?
This activity is a level four based on the LoTi levels. Students will use technology
and the technology is central to the classroom instruction. The instructional
leaning shifts towards student directed learning. The teacher is both a guide and
a true co-learner because right and wrong answers are not tally pre-determined.
Discovery learning is central to the classroom.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still
comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?
The best way to comply with my districts internet safety and student privacy is be
knowledgeable about the laws and regulations. If you have an understanding of
them, you will know how to avoid placing the students in danger. A way you can
avoid danger for students is to have the Journey North website pulled up and
ready to use. You can monitor the students while visiting the website. To prevent
any danger from posting students on my blog, I will ensure that my students
parents know and are tolerable with it. If they are not, I will not film that student.
