Unit 9 Math Study Guide: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

Every fraction can also be represented as a decimal and a


percent.
With a calculator, this is really easy to do: divide the numerator
(# above the fraction bar) by the denominator (# below the
fraction bar).
If you dont have a calculator, you must see how many times your
denominator goes into 100, so turn it into a fraction of problem.
Example:
14/20 of 100
Divide the whole (100) by the denominator (20), and
multiply your answer by the numerator (14).
100/20=5, 5x14=70
To find out the value of a percent of something, multiply the
whole by the decimal equivalent of the percent.
Example:
20% of 150
150x.20=30
So, if you were buying something that cost $150
originally, but was 20% off, youd have to subtract the
discount ($30) from the original price, which means
youd end up paying $120.
