Job Description:
Job Description - The Dean of Students is a senior member of the Division of
Campus Life and Student Services, supporting the Vice President and
contributing to the overall direction and priorities of Division. The position is a
visible advocate for students (undergraduate, graduate, and medical) and their
experiences and initiatives and works to ensure the Division and University are
attune to and responsive to the diversity of Browns student population. The
position provides leadership to specific division-wide and University functions,
including ensuring a comprehensive and integrated network of student support,
an effective 24-7 student crisis response system, and strategies for managing
areas of risk related to student health and safety. The Dean has direct
responsibility for the Office of Student Life (including student conduct, student
support, and crisis intervention), Student Activities and the Stephen Robert 62
Campus Center, and Student and Employee Accessibility Services.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record
(minimum of five years) of administrative leadership and accomplishment in
complex organizations, preferably in student and/or academic affairs. An
advanced degree in a relevant field is required; doctorate preferred. Candidates
should demonstrate comprehensive experience in strategic and financial
planning, as well as organizational development; long standing commitment to
diversity and to the development of an inclusive and challenging campus culture;
a record of fostering excellence in student development and academic affairs;
current knowledge and understanding of federal and legal regulations and best
practices related to some of the most critical areas of student health and safety
(i.e. Title IX, alcohol and other drugs, etc.); the ability to work collaboratively with
students, faculty and staff; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
