Skills Application Assignment #2

Marketing Library Resources:
Imagine you have been hired by your
college/public library to develop a promotional
campaign, advertising the unique features of
the library.
Background: The library has noticed that students are not using many of the helpful
resources of the library program. They have decided to hire knowledgeable students
to reach out to their peers and advertise the resources of the library that students will
find helpful.
Using the knowledge you have gained about your future library program, consider which
library features would be most advantageous to students. Then create a digital or print
product that will advertise and promote these beneficial resources. I want you to use more
21st Century means of communicating your information. Try using some of the apps and/or
extensions I showed you.
Here are some suggestions to consider:
o a presentation using the Google Slides app
o a Prezi presentation (Perhaps youd like to do a Prezi of QR Codes from the
QuickMark QR Code extension)
o a screencast lesson using Jing, or aTubeCatcher (or the Screencastify
extension)
o a Weebly website
o a Wikispace
o a flyer (using Smore) Again, you may want to include QR Codes and/or
Kaizena voice comments
o a Pearltree for the library (Again, remember the extension)
o a video (Perhaps using WeVideo app)
(for all of the above, consider adding word clouds you create using Tagxedo)
As you create this promotional product, be sure to consider your audience. What resources
would college students need, and what would be the best way to reach these students?
Your product will be graded according to:
- your ability to follow directions
- your understanding of the resources in a
college library
- your thoroughness of investigation
- the technical quality and thoroughness of
media produced
- your appropriate online behavior
- Your displayed knowledge of the Web 2.0
tools, apps, and extensions we discussed
