III. Teacher Input

(Present tasks,
information, and
guidance)

Description of Activities and

Setting
Ask students to recall how
long it takes them to get to a
friends house, to school, to
the store. Ask them how much
money they would need to
save to buy a new toy.
Students should be able to
learn about money and time in
word problems and be able to
accurately solve word
problems that deal with
everyday situations.
After letting the students think
about time and money from
my previously asked
questions, I will present them
with a PowerPoint slide I
created. There will be a few
notes that the students can jot
down if they would like and I
will read aloud each slide.
There will be an example word
problem that has to deal with
either money or time. The
students and I will together go
step by step to solve this
problem. After asking
questions and guiding them
through the procedure, I will
ask if anyone needs any
further instruction. I will then
provide the students with the
second word problem and
have them individually solve

the problem accurately.

IV. Guided Practice

(Elicit performance,
provide assessment
and feedback)

V. Independent
Practice (Retention and
transfer)

VI. Closure (Plan for

maintenance)

I will complete the first

example word problem with
the students, guiding them in
the correct direction. After
asking for any questions or
clarification, I will present the
students with a new word
problem that they will
complete on their own
accurately.
The students will be directed
to get into groups of 2 or 3
where their group will need to
create their own word
problem. The word problem
will have to deal with time or
money and every day
activities. They will need to be
able to show their steps in
solving the problem and solve
the problem accurately. They
will then present their word
problem to the class.
This is the portion when the
students will present their
word problems with their
group in front of the class and
the teacher. The teacher will
grade them on accuracy,
completion and creativity.
