Background of Moris Rasik
• Moris Rasik was established in November 2000
as a specialized microfinance institution. It is
registered with the NGO Forum of Timor Leste as
a National NGO.

• First branch office opened in Maliana, Bobonaro

District, which had a higher concentration of
population and better opportunities for trade due
to its location near the border with Indonesia.

• MR has slowly expanded its operations and now

operates in 12 districts with 15 branches.
• Moris Rasik follows the Grameen Bank model of microfinance.
Lending occurs through women’s groups. Six to eight such
groups form a centre. All financial transactions are carried out
in the weekly centre meetings, held by a Field Staff.

• MR is offering 7 different products to its clients. They are:

1. Group Lending with 2 products: Individual Group
Lending and Special loans;
2. Individual/Salary Loans with 2 products: Haburas
Business and Haburas UmaKain;
3. Savings with 2 products: Open Access Savings and
Depozitu (Term Deposit)
4. Microinsurance – Credit/Life

• MR will provide Financial Literacy Training to its clients by

engaging a local training provider before the end of this year

• The energy product and the House Improvement Loan will be

launched next year.
