Greetings to the chair, and delegates. For we are here to discuss the
madder of Disarmament in the United Arab Emirates. Disarmament is the process
which reduces, limits, or abolishes weapons. Often taken to mean total elimination
of weapons of mass destruction, such as nuclear arms. The need for a culture of
peace and for significant arms reduction worldwide has never been greater. And
this applies to all classes of weapons.
On the danger of nuclear weapons, Albert Einstein reportedly said: I do not
know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be
fought with sticks and stones.
Although not a member of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) United Arab
Emirates has ratified a few conventions, like The Biological Weapons Convention,
The Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons which may be deemed to be
Excessively, Injurious or to have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW), Chemical Weapons
Convention (CWC). CD is based on all multilateral arms control and disarmament
issues. Currently the CD primarily focuses its attention on the following issues:
cessation of the nuclear arms race and nuclear disarmament; prevention of nuclear
war, including all related matters; prevention of an arm race in outer space;
effective international arrangements to assure non-nuclear-weapon States against
the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons; new types of weapons of mass
destruction and new systems of such weapons including radiological weapons;
comprehensive programme of disarmament and transparency in armaments.
Many have already signed a treaty with the United Arab Emirates (London, UN,
and Washington) dialing with arms, biological weapons, nuclear test ban, outer
space, nuclear weapons and perhaps even more.
The United Arab Emirates states to immediately stop the qualitative
improvement, development, production and stockpiling of nuclear warheads. More
importantly to find a way of eliminating nuclear dangers which are much more fatal
to innocent people. This will be all thank you for your time fellow delegates and
chair.
