Mini-Unit Assessment Overview

Mini-Unit
Objective(s)
Students will be
able to identify
important people
and events that
took place during
WWII with 80%
accuracy.

Pre-Assessment
For the preassessment, the
students are asked to
match the correct
term with its
definition. There are
10 different terms
and definitions.
Students that
exceeded the
standard matched 8
to 10, out of 10 terms
and definitions
correctly.
Students that are
at standard matched
5 to 7, out of 10
terms and definitions
correctly.
Students that are
approaching the
standard matched 0
to 4, out of 10 terms
and definitions
correctly.

Post-Assessment
Students will
retake the preassessment and
be assessed
through:
Whole Class, and
Subgroups:
High
Medium
Low
Students will also
turn in their
WWII books that
they will create
throughout the
unit. This book
will have
important
foldables and
information
about what they
have learned so
far. The students
will be given a
rubric explaining
what I expect
from them.

Accommodations/
Modifications
Based on the results of the preassessment, I will have the
exceeding students focus on
important people and events
that they did not match
correctly. I will provide them
with more informative texts
relating to their topic and have
them conduct research on
different events and important
people.
For the students who are
approaching the standard, I
will provide them with the term
and correct definition of each
question on the pre-assessment.
This will allow the students to
follow along and identify the
terms as I go in-depth in the
lesson.

Pre- and Post-assessment

On the pre and post-assessment, students must try to match the correct term with its
definition. I have placed a letter next to each definition and provided different terms for the
students to choose from. The students will match the definition to the correct term by placing the
letter used to identify the definition next to the correct term (see attachment below). I will
evaluate this test based on the number of terms and definitions the students matched correctly out
of ten. The students will be classified as exceeding the standard if they matched eight to ten
terms and definitions correctly, scoring between a 80-100%. The students will be considered at
standard if they matched five to seven terms and definitions correctly, scoring between 50-70%.
The students that are approaching the standard will match zero to four terms and definitions
correctly, placing them between 0-40%.

Student Progress
During each lesson, I will be observing the students through discussion, visual arts, and
the post- assessment. As the students are discussing important people and events throughout the
lesson, I will be conducting a formative assessment. I will have a checklist that I will use to show
progress and participation. I will be listening for details and statements that support what the
students have learned so far in the unit. Students will need to be actively engaged in the lesson
and work with their group to complete activities. These assessments are important because they
allow me to see if the students understand the material being taught. They will provide feedback
on the way I am teaching my lesson, if I need to continue teaching a certain event or about an
important figure. Also, it will show what students I may need to pull aside and provide a more indepth mini-lesson. Students will also be assessed through the post-assessment. I will see if
students are able to correctly match the terms with the given definitions after the mini-unit has
been taught.

Observation Checklist:
This checklist will allow me to monitor the students progress and comprehension
throughout the unit.
