Procedures: Miss Spiders Tea Party By: David Kirk

First, introduce the students to the cover of the book. What do you notice on the cover of
this book? Do spiders normally have tea parties? What do you think is going to happen?
Also do you notice who the author is of this book? He also did the illustration by painting
each picture.
Second, begin reading story.
Page 1: What do you notice about Miss Spider? Explain what and why Miss
Spider had Silken Chairs? Also ask the students what other kind
of
insects do you see?
Page 2: Hold the number 2 up when introducing the two timid beetles Why do
you think they dashed away from Miss Spider? Was that very nice?
Page 3: Why are they afraid of Miss Spiders web? What happens when they get
stuck in it? Make note about sad Miss Spider in the corner.
Page 5: Point out the rubber bugs
Page 7: How many butterflies do you see?
Page 8: No one came to her tea party. How do you feel about this? Would you like
if no one came to your tea party?

Page 12: So what did Miss Spider do for the moth? What do you think will happen
next?
Page 13: Point out the tea party and how happy Miss Spider is now.
Next, when finished book, have the students reflect on what happened to Miss Spider.
- How did this make you feel?
- Have you ever judged a person before you got to meet them?
- What does it mean to accept others difference?
