Family Names

Naming can be a difficult thing to do when it comes to something that you love. In my
family, there really isn't a tradition that we follow. Some families follow a strict tradition on
where a name has to be specific in its meaning or keeping the family name alive. Religion and
culture are usually reasons why some families have these traditions, others were created and
followed out of respect.
Ty Newsome or Ty Newsome , which is my father and which is my brother? People
often get confused when they come over and are unaware of the fact that my father and younger
brother share the same name. They rarely get called by junior or senior and it can be often
annoying but it doesn't really bother me due to the reason I call my father, Dad. There really is no
reasoning behind my brothers name except it was my fathers name. My fathers name was
Dale, my brother and fathers middle names. Ty was just given to my father because the name
was liked. It is not short for Tyler or anything else, just a simple name of Ty. A tradition could
be on the rise though, my brother has told me that he likes his name and he could possibly name
his son that too, as well as giving the middle name of Davis. Besides that, my mother,
grandmother and everyone else including myself, have names that follow no tradition.

One of my good friends follows a very different religion, he is muslim. His name is
Waell Abulebdeh, his name has a lot more meaning that anyone in my family. Arab muslims
often use names that are derived from Islam. Their name could show his or her family lineage or
family origin. Frequently a sons name begins with a personal name followed by the fathers
personal name then the fathers personal name. Another alternate, popular form could be the
same except for the grandfathers personal name would be changed to the family name. His last
name, Abulebdeh, means servant of and his first name is a Quranic name for a boy that means,
one who takes refuge. This practice of religion has more of a traditional way of naming people
in the family.
Sometimes I wish that my family had a way of tradition in naming people in the family.
My name is from fashion, Chloe, and there is a Chloe store in New York off Madison Ave.
hinting towards my middle name of Madison. Possibly I could name my daughter off of my
name or in a similar way, forming a type of tradition. Names can share a lot of family history
and should be appreciated. It can be a link to find out who you really are.
