I am interested in applying for an elementary teaching position. On May 11th, 2013 I graduated from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I also hold endorsements in the mathematics, science, Spanish, and language arts content areas. I am currently a second-year classroom teacher, teaching fifth grade at Emerson Elementary in South Berwyn School District 100. District 100 is a 1:1 technology school district, so integrating technology into each lesson was a priority. In my first two years, I fully integrated Readers and Writers Workshop into the everyday curriculum using the Common Core Standards. I also had the opportunity to advise an extra-curricular social studies club focusing on civics engagement and citizenship, which was recognized by CBS Channel 2 News and Governor Pat Quinn. My classroom was also chosen to pilot the PARCC field test twice before initial roll out this year. I was selected to be a member of the district Assessment Team which worked to provide teachers with the professional development and training needed to administer the PARCC assessment. During my final year at Illinois State University, I participated in a year-long student teaching program called Professional Development Schools (PDS). Throughout the 2012-2013 school year I had the opportunity to teach in three different grade levels at three different schools. I started off the year at Fox Creek Elementary in a third grade classroom. My second placement was at Kingsley Junior High School in an ESL classroom, where I co-taught beginning and advanced English language learners in Readers and Writers workshop. Following my time in junior high, I had experience teaching in a first grade classroom at Northpoint Elementary. In January, I returned to my original third grade classroom where I will complete my full-time student teaching experience until my graduation in May. I feel very qualified to teach any grade level in which my degree allows considering my experiences through this intense student teaching program. I am very pleased to see that your school district finds it a priority to work together to achieve excellence every day and promote self-accountability in all of your students by providing them a safe environment to become lifelong learners. It is important to me to have my students strive to be their personal best and work with the most up-do-date technology and community resources to further enhance their educational experiences. My goal is to combine my various experiences and my passion to be an enthusiastic, supportive educator to make a positive contribution to your district. I would like to have the opportunity to meet with you and share the enthusiasm I have for working with students. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Lindsay Fairbanks 128 Ascot Lane Apt. 3211 Willowbrook, IL 60527 (630) 303-1373 lindsayfairbanks91@gmail.com
