Algebra II!

Course Description!
Algebra II builds on work with linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and allows for students to extend
their repertoire of functions to include polynomial, rational, and radical functions. Students work closely with the
expressions that define the functions, and continue to expand and hone their abilities to model situations and
to solve equations, including solving quadratic equations over the set of complex numbers and solving
exponential equations using the properties of logarithms. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply
throughout each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience
mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem
situations.!

Course Goals!
Algebra II is the final math course in a sequence of math courses (Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II)
required to fulfill the graduation requirements for a Core 40 diploma. Algebra II is designed to prepare students
for advanced math classes at the high school and post-secondary education.!

Grading!
Letter grades for each nine weeks will be determined by the school's official grading scale located in your
handbook. Semester grades will be determined by averaging the nine weeks grades (40% each) and the final
(20%).!

Grades will be calculated using the following percentages.!

Formative Assessments 30% !

Summative Assessments 70%!

Late Work!
Late papers will not be accepted.!

Make-Up Policy!
If a student is absent (excused) the day an assessment is given/due or the day a graded activity is assigned,
the student will have one period for every period missed to make-up the material. Students are encouraged to
make-up tests outside of class (before school or after school) so they do not fall further behind. !

Expectations!

Be seated in assigned seat when the bell rings. (at the beginning and end of class) !
Inappropriate language, sound effects, or hand signals will not be tolerated. !
Cheating, copying or talking during a test, quiz, exam, or other assignment will result in an F for that
assignment. !
Care will be used with all classroom equipment (iPads, calculators, lab equipment, furniture, etc.).
Equipment will not be damaged, written upon, scratched, broken, taken apart, or vandalized. Vandalism will
not be tolerated and will be result in an F for the day's activities and additional disciplinary action. !
Cell phones and other personal electronic devices should not become a distraction or interrupt the learning
environment.!
Attendance and tardy policies will be enforced. !
Pay attention and participate.!

Consequences!

1st offense - Written and/or verbal warning !

2nd offense - In-class detention and/or alternative assignment !
3rd offense - Office referral and/or parent or guardian contact !

Severe misbehavior, defiance, or profanity will result in student being referred immediately to the office.
