After reviewing the calendar the students will be able to

identify day, month, and year of the calendar with 95%
accuracy.
Students will be able to represent, count and write 20 and
beyond with 90% accuracy.
Show the Curious About Math with Curious George video.
Direct Instruction:
Students will be instructed to go to the carpet for the following
instruction:
While sitting in front of the calendar students will instructed to
use a complete sentence and identify: how many months are in a
year, how many days are in a week and what the current year is.
The students will sing Days of the Week by the tune of the
Adams Family.
The students will be asked to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s all the
way to 100.
Students will be asked to quietly go back to their tables and take
out their two color counters.
Guided Practice:
After showing the Curious About Math with Curious George
video the teacher will guide the students by using the
watermelon picture from pg. 305 worksheet and ask the
following questions:

Modifications for
ESE

1. How many seeds can you count on this watermelon? (24)

2. If you placed one counter for each seed in the picture in
the ten frames, how many ten frames would you fill
completely? (2)
3. How many counters would you place in the third ten
frame? (4)
This will introduce the students to number 20 and above.
The teacher will then use two color counters and show different
patterns of the same number and then ask the students to identify
what number it is. The students should identify the same
number each time although the pattern has changed.
After the review of numbers 1 10 the teacher will pass out the
Chapter 8 Pre-test.
After the pre-test the teacher will guide the students on how to
identify numbers and number words with the Vocabulary Builder
worksheet.
Independent Practice:
The students will work on the Chapter 8 Pre-test individually.
The students will independently count the sea otters all together
and then count the sea otters with sunglasses and without
sunglasses on the Vocabulary Builder worksheet.
The students will identify greater than or less than but stating
whether there are more sea otters with sunglasses or without.
Formative:
The teacher will ask questions after the video to acknowledge
that the students understand the concept of numbers 20 and
above. While using the two color counters the teacher will
circulate to identify the students correctly put them in the 10
frames.
Summative:
The pre-test completed with 90% accuracy.
Have students verify how many 10 frames need to be filled to
give the number 20.
Levels 1 and 2: The video and worksheets are great visuals for
the ELL. If necessary the worksheets will be given in their first
language and in English. The video can be shown in closed
captioned with their first language. The ELL can be placed with
a higher level ELL to help with the two color counters and
worksheets.
Levels 3 and 4: The teacher will verify understanding by asking
if the ELL knows how to use the 10 frames and the two color
counters. If necessary the ELL can work with a shoulder
partner.
Modifications and accommodations will be in accordance with
students IEP. The ESE student will be asked to complete
assignments in increments so that he can stay focused on the

assignment and not get overwhelmed. The ESE student will be

directed to use only the necessary amount of two color counters
to help him complete his work and the video will be a way to
keep the ESE focused. The ESE student will be given a stress
ball if his actions become disruptive to the rest of the class.
Gifted students that complete the pre-test in advance will be able
to explore numbers beyond 20 with their two color counters and
write down what numbers they came up with.
Science- Have the students sort the shape objects by number,
shape, and/or color.
Social Studies Have children create an American flag and
identify how many stars, how many red stripes, how many white
stripes, and how many stripes in all.
