The Big Idea


Need to focus on the factors outside
of the innovation that exist in the
change environment.
Certain socio-environmental
conditions of change are necessary
for the change effort as a whole to
succeed.

8 Conditions of Change
1. Dissatisfaction with a status quo
a) must be a need for change
2. Sufficient knowledge and skills
a) need to have the necessary knowledge
and skills to to implement change
3. Availability of Resources
a) necessary resources must be available
4. Availability of time
a) need to learn, adapt, integrate, and reflect

a) needed motivation- intrinsic or extrinsic
6. Participation
a) important voices needed
7. Commitment
a) leaders must support process and
8. Leadership
a) leaders provide support,
encouragement, and inspiration

Applying the Model


The new Common Core State
Standards state that a student, with
guidance and support from adults,
use a variety of digital tools to
produce and publish writing,
including in collaboration with peers.

Dissatisfaction with the

Including technology into 1st grade

Student motivation to take part in

Teacher research and

Commitment
Digital tools will be provided by
district in order to comply with new
state standards
Will provide apps or websites for
specific published pieces of writing
Teachers will continue to use digital
tools within the classroom during
writing time

Leadership
Technology director, or team leader provides
professional development over the usage of
digital tools
Teachers use the digital tools together
through trial and error
Teachers implement standard in their own
classroom and then reconvene to discuss
areas of improvement and successes!
