Rationale-Reflection
1.
Write a reflection (a 1/2 page or paragraph) explaining your
understanding of individual learner differences and cultural and linguistic
diversity identifying how to satisfy ELLs needs from your own teaching.
How will you incorporate knowledge of English language
development and ELL strengths and needs into English language
content instruction?
I will incorporate the knowledge by designing, adapting, and delivering
instruction that address each students diverse learning needs. This way
there will be copious amount of opportunities for students to show their
learning in various ways.
How will you engage English learners in their progress of English
language development and in meeting content standards?
I will engage ELLs by designing instruction that will build on students
prior knowledge and experiences. This will allow students to accelerate when
they show understanding.
How will you ensure that English language learners are regularly
provided instruction that meets their language needs?
I will ensure that my students are provided instruction that meets their
needs by providing specific pacing for their individual rates of growth, take
not of task demands, level of communication, assessments, and track using
response modes.
How will you promote inclusion in your classroom?
I will promote inclusion by providing ample opportunities for group
work and by focusing on my students talents, experiences, prior learning,
and abilities.
How has your field experience impacted your ability to understand
and support a range of culturally and linguistically appropriate
instructional strategies?
My field experience has taught me a great deal about culturally and
linguistically appropriate instructional strategies. For example, I have learned
that it imperative that as a teacher you believe that every single one of your
students can perform and achieve at high levels. It is also important to
accept each students differences and their personal and family backgrounds
and their skills, perspectives, and interests and that each one of those
differences are reflected in lesson plans. Furthermore, the teacher should
make the learners feel valued and welcome in class.
What did you discover about yourself as a learner from working with
English Language Learners?

I discovered that I am not one for giving up. Learning a new language
is hard and I found myself doing anything I could to relate to my students
and try new things in the hope that they would find the materials more
engaging and easier to relate to. I tried a various amount of programs and
methods, I studied my students, and talked to them about their talents and
skills. Any information I could get my hands on I did and tried every week to
reflect my students in my lessons and discussions. I especially tried to relate
vocabulary to their lives in the hopes that the words would be clearer.
Also, describe how your two assignments: diversity practices and
lesson plan with Literacy Linkages and Content Area Language
Consideration demonstrate your ability to support learning differences
in your classroom, in particular:
2.

a. Understands individual learner differences and holds

high expectations of students.
My two assignments demonstrate my ability to hold high expectations
as my lessons are designed to use my students strengths and support
their weaknesses. In addition, they use instructional strategies and
resources that support language acquisition.
b. Designs, adapts, and delivers instruction to address each
students diverse learning strengths and needs.
My two assignments are designed to address students diverse
learning strengths and needs through the incorporations of students
experiences, cultures, talents, high scaffolding, and various instructional
strategies.
c. Allows students different ways to demonstrate learning
sensitive to multiple experiences and diversity.
Students are allowed different ways to demonstrate learning. For
example, in my lessons I incorporate multiple perspectives to discussions
of content including students personal and community experiences and
cultural norms.
d. Creates a learning culture that encourages individual learners
to persevere and advance.
As a teacher, I understand that students have many differences
especially in approaches to learning and performance. In my lessons, I
specifically design instruction that uses learners strengths and promotes
