Expert Role: Vocabulary/Concept Builder: Post in your OneNote notebook under your Expert tab; it is part of your grade.

What you will do: Your job is to help develop the core vocabulary and concepts essential to understanding the reading. To do this, you will
prepare a list of concepts and vocabulary terms, accompanying each with an open-ended question. Your questions should be ones that
require thought and get the circle talking. You will also need to look up definitions to the words/terms you select and create a
sentence/drawing that exemplifies the meaning.
During the Expert Circle Meeting: You will begin and facilitate discussion, reminding circle members to write down their notes/thoughts in
their learning logs during discussion. First up, ask the summarizer to read the summary to set the overall context. Then, ask your first
question. Before beginning discussion, ask the evaluator and connector if their synthesis/analysis/reflection is related to the question. If yes,
ask them to contribute in response to the question first. Limit their responses to no more than 2 min. each. Then, open discussion to the
group, or, if evaluator and connector do not have material relevant to your question, open discussion to the group immediately. LIMIT
DISCUSSION to 5 min. per question. Then, repeat the process with your next question. Once questions are finished, present your vocabulary
words to the group (no more than 5 words, 3 is ideal).

Expert Role: Summarizer; post in your Expert tab; it is part of your grade
What you will do: Your job is to prepare a brief summary of the research, highlighting what you think are the most important points in each
article or website. If you need guidance in picking out what you think are the most important points, ask yourself, What are three broad
questions that the research selection answers? Answer these three questions and you will probably have written a good summary. The other
members of your group will be counting on you to give a summary that conveys the key points, the main highlights of the research.
During the Expert Circle Meeting: When the vocabulary/concept builder expert cues you for a summary, present your summary to the
entire circle. If you think it helps them focus attention on the important concepts, share the three broad questions that you are answering with
them BEFORE reading the summary.

Expert Role: Connector; post to your OneNote in the expert tab; it is part of your grade.
What you will do: Your job is to locate 3 quotes that you think relate to the knowledge or point of view that your group should hear, think
about, and discuss. Quotes may be connected to another experts knowledge or even to another home group. They may relate to your
experiences, provide analogies for the group, or provide a viewpoint other than the dominant one in your home groups approach.
During the Expert Circle Meeting: Listen to the question presented by the vocabulary/concept builder expert. If your quote is relevant to the
question, then contribute that quote to the discussion. If not, contribute the quote when asked. When contributing the quote, make sure
everyone is with you at the right tab in OneNote and have them find where the quote begins; cue them with page position, etc. Read it aloud
yourself or ask someone to read it (do not ask anyone to read who is uncomfortable with reading aloud) while the circle follows along. After
reading, present your reflection on the connection of the quote. Ask for reaction from circle.
