with the different letters of the alphabet (color coordinated to match with

categories.

Adult Procedures:
Transition/warm up/introduction: Read the book Alpha Oops!: The Day
Z Went First
Then the adult will
1. Introduce the materials by showing and asking questions about what
the children see.
2. I will then collect the cards that go with the color corresponding dice.
3. I will then mix up the cards and roll the dice.
4. Then I will say the letter that I rolled and choose one of the pictures
that correspond to the letter.
5. I will then choose a child to roll and say the letter then choose a card to
go with the letter they rolled.
6. Once every child had a roll and chose a picture I will then have them
place their pictures into different categories for sorting.
7. I will then allow the children to play a couple more rounds maybe
including more dice if necessary.
8. Finally I will put everything back in the bags and on the tray to be put
neatly back on the shelf.
Child Procedures:
1. First the children will listen as I read the story.
2. Next the children will listen and try to ask questions as I explain the
materials.
3. Then the children will watch as I set up the materials, asking questions
if needed.
4. Then the children will pay attention as I roll and choose the
corresponding picture to go with the letter I rolled.
5. The child I choose will roll the dice and choose from the pictures the
one that goes with the letter.
6. The children will be chosen and each one will take their turn.
7. Then the children will take their cards and sort them into different
categories.
8. The children will go in a different order and do the same things a
couple more rounds.
9. Finally the children will collect the materials and put them back
together and on the tray for shelving.
Conversation to Support Learning/Talking with Children:
1) What are other words that begin with the letter you rolled?
2) How else can you categorize the pictures that you have?
3) What should happen if you roll a star on the dice?
4) How did you know which picture went with the letter you rolled?
5) What other ways can you use the alphabet dice?
Observations and Assessment:

The children will name the letter that they rolled on the dice and be
able to name what they rolled and choose a picture to represent that
letter.
The children will begin to notice that the pictures can be grouped
together in a similar manner to be categorized.
The children will use their gross motor skills to be able to roll the dice.

Accommodations for individuals:

Simplification for atypical learners: Put out less blocks and
pictures. Add cards with the letters of the alphabet that match instead of
pictures.
Challenge for advanced learners: Use more dice and pictures to
add more letters and pictures.
