AGS-17

Automatic Mounted Grenade

Launcher

The AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher is

designed to engage hostile manpower and fire
weapons located in the open, entrenched or
defiladed (in hollows, ravines or at reverse hill
slopes) positions.
The AGS-17 operates on the blowback principle.
The GL is equipped with a rifled quickdisconnected barrel.
The casualty radius with 0.9 kill probability is
about 7 m.
AGS-17

The weapon is equipped with a 2.7-power PAG17 Optical Sight.

Ammunition is fed from a box containing a 29-round metal link belt. It is capable of firing the VOG-17
or VOG-30 grenade rounds. The latter has enhanced reliability and employment safety ensured by
additional autonomous sealing of the grenade round. The fragmentation effectiveness of the VOG-30
round is better by factor 1.5 ... 2 at the expense of new design of the fragmentation shell and better
filling of explosive.
For firing, the AGS-17 is installed on a SAG-17 Tripod Mount provided with arc-type elevating and
traversing mechanisms, a case deflector and fine levelling mechanism.
