Statement of purpose

Throughout my journey in ETEC program, I see my own progress from goals I have
set as they evolve into new sets of goals. Looking back now, I am proud of my
experience throughout MET as I overcome difficulties and challenges. I have
learned a great deal about professional growth. I would like my MET ePortforlio to
demonstrate familiarity and understanding of the theory and research I have
studied. I would like to put my research findings into practice, and to represent my
capstone experience. Furthermore, I would like my ePortfolio to be an extension of
my learning. Upon the completion of my ePortfolio, I will be able to fulfill the MET
graduation requirements, satisfy TQS requirement, and showcase my ongoing
learning journey.

Audience

- My classmates in MET program
- My instructor and other faculty members
- Past and future MET students
- My colleagues and potential employers
- Myself: for ongoing professional development and to revisit my future goals

Metaphor and Procedure

I have chosen to use the sport badminton as the metaphor for my ePortfolio because
I used to be part of the badminton school team back in high school. I have sponsored
school badminton teams, and I still play badminton regularly for leisure. The
following stages form a connection between mastering the sport and my learning
experience in the MET program.

1. Serve
Serving is the first stage of badminton. Once you serve, the aim is to keep on hitting
the birdy past the net as long as you can. When I first started in MET program, the
first course I took was all about survival. Figuring out how online course works was
the first step.

2. Technique
Working on techniques to learn the rules is the next step: clear, drop and smash.
Once I know where to find instructions, where to look for help, and where to hand in
assignments, I can focus on learning theories, reading articles/ textbooks, and
writing reflections, papers and proposals.

3. Tactics
Stage 3 involves learning tactics from others. In other words, team work! I find
collaboration opportunities as a valuable learning experience in this program.
According to Vygoski, social interaction fosters cognitive development in learning.

When a discussion takes place, divers points of views are shared and participants
gain a better understanding on the topic of discussion.

4. Point
The final stage is to score. The product of this learning journey is a showcase
compiled with evidence of the goals I have attained, theories I have learnt, and skills
I have gained to be resourceful, innovative, and reflective.

The above metaphor is going to be the theme of my ePorfolio. Each tab represents a
course I took. Under each tab, I will include important artifacts, such as clips I have
created, papers, and reflections.

Tools and Resources

Weebly will be the platform I use to host my ePortfolio. I am planning to include
writings, images, music and video clips to make the website more interactive. This
capstone experience will build on my technology skills, which will become my
personal toolbox for my future career opportunity.
