Procedures:
Intelligences:
Day Four: Students will be a shown a video from the Alvin Ailey American
Dance Theaters performance of the historical piece Revelations. Students will
be required to take notes on where they saw each element of Choreography. The
class with then have a discussion on which element they are excited to work with
and which one is the most challenging for them.
Day Five: The teacher will explain the students duet choreography assignment.
Students will then be paired up into partners and will have the remaining class
time to brainstorm ideas as well as start the searching process for their music of
choice. Students are to use iTunes or Spotify to search for their music. Once
music is selected students should post their song choice on their Schoology App
Dance page.
Day Six: Students will use the Audacity music editing program on their iPads to
make any cuts required to keep their dance piece to 1 minute and 30 seconds in
length. Students will be assisted by the teacher in this process if they are
requiring aid.
Days Seven, Eight, Nine: Both of these days will be given to students to create
their duet choreography. This will be a time for students to spend time collaborating and working on incorporating the 5 elements of Choreography. At the end of
Day Eight students will perform their duet for the teacher for feedback and notes.
Day Ten: Students will perform their duets for their classmates. While they are
performing students will video record themselves using their iPads. Students will
take notes and give feedback after each group performs. Students will then have
time to regroup and discuss any changes they would have made based off of the
responses of their peers.
Day Eleven: Students will create an iMovie of their duet performance. They will
add a title to the beginning of the dance, as well of adding their edited track as an
overlay to their video. Students will then post their completed videos to www.youtube.com and then post the link to their Schoology Dance page.
Day Twelve: Students will spend some individual reflection time and will blog
their thoughts on the unit. Students will then meet with the teacher briefly to
discuss the teachers thoughts on the completion of the duet choreography.
