III. Goals and Student Learning Outcomes:

Goal: Integrate Elements of Choreography into set piece of choreography from a previous unit.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to incorporate elements of choreography to
different sections of a dance sequence.
Goal 1: Students will integrate the elements of choreography into a set dance phrase
Student Learning Outcome 1: Understand the concept of each element
Student Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate each element physically
Student Learning Outcome 3: Manipulate choreography with each element

Students will need their iPads to use their Schoology app and any note taking app
they use as a reference.

Students will use their personal blogs through www.blogger.com

Diversity / Differentiation:

Class will be held in Herald Hall (our schools dance room) and is a face to face
class. Students will be required to dress out for this lesson as well as bring their
iPads to obtain class materials.

Class is a mix of ninth and tenth graders. One student has Down Syndrome and
needs assistance with getting her iPad started and requires assistance by the
teacher to stay focused.

Technology Inclusion:

Students will be using their iPads which will allow them to use whatever note
taking app they choose, their Schoology app, and their Webquest for this unit. The
teacher will be using the projector, iPad, and the Reflector app to project materials
from the iPad to the projector. The teacher will also use the sound system and iPad
app Spotify for the class music source.

VIII. Prior Knowledge: Prior to this lesson students were introduced to the basic elements of
choreography.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is the third lesson of twelve in the Choreography
Unit.

Procedures:
1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:
Class will begin with a quick prayer and attendance being taken. The teacher will also
write down students who are not in proper dance attire worn for class. As a class lead a
warmup for about 10-15 minutes to prepare fore moving.
2. Direct Instruction:
The teacher will provide the PDF that was shared the previous lesson on the projector
for students to see while working in groups. The class will divide into their small groups
that they worked with during the previous lesson. Once students finish performing for
their classmates have the students get their blogs opened up and begin blogging about
what they discovered of each element used.
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
Each group is assigned a different element to work with. They will use the majority of
the class period to manipulate the choreography they already know with their specific
element. The teacher will walk around and assist the groups if help is needed. Students
will perform their finished manipulated pieces for their peers.
4. Independent Practice:
Students are working in groups the majority of the class period, and will perform for
their classmates at the end of the class. Students will write about their experience of
working with an element and viewing different choreographic elements being used.
5. Review / Closure:
The teacher will end the lesson with final thoughts on how important the basic
choreographic elements are in creating a versatile piece for audiences.
6. Presentations:
Students will perform their manipulated pieces for their classmates towards the end of
the class period.

Evaluation/Assessment:
1. Students will be assessed informally by the teacher throughout the whole lesson by
observation of students participation and time spent physically demonstrating each
element of dance.
